Figured i should post a build thread here.. my other build blog is on minkara.carview
http://minkara.carview.co.jp/en/userid/1701469/blog/

I may be lazy to post everything, so i will post a few pics to sum it up.

My prior rides
Image

My last ride, FC rx7..
Image

Blew the engine december 2010.. at the time I was facing unemployment for a few years/going through some hard times.. I tried saving up to rebuild it, but just wasnt happening.. eventually the motivation to rebuild it got lost after sitting on it for a few years.. So i ended up parting it out.. watching craigslist, i scored a 2 piece g nose.. that sparked my interest in getting an s30. Started buying parts for the s30 before actually getting an s30.. some stuff is hard to pass up.

Saw this one on craigslist, went to go look at it.. 74 260z. Good candidate for me being I live in california, so smog exemption is a major plus (and my prior cars, ive had turbo swaps and what not, and dealing with smog and police BAR refs is no fun).
Image
Shes automatic, but i can always swap that.

Pops gave me his 99 chevy blazer a year or so back.. I figured id get something i actually want with it, so i was able to offer that as trade for the Z. Luckily the guy has an uncle who was able to tow the Z home for me. Car wasnt running. it was under the impression that a transmission cooler line was leaking.

Image

had some shit polished and got some filters
Image

sprayed the engine while in the car, eventually had to take the head off since i broke an exhaust stud and had a shop extract it.. at that time, also installed ARP head studs, and had the head re-decked
Image
Wanted to remove alot of the old smog shit and clean up the 260 engine bay

Face Off like Nicholas Cage John Travolta

Image

Other stuff not pictured.. Picked up toyota 4runner s12w brake calipers with Z31 drilled/slotted rotors, spacer, adjustible front and rear arms. k-e rear disc brake adapters, z31 drilled/slotted rear rotors.

Didnt like the lens i made.. so i bought another set of headlight covers from yahoo auctions jp.. this time they are a reproduction set with lens.. The rings themselves appear to be molded, as opposed to the originals that are metal.
But the lens is curved.. the ones i made, where straight , which look wrong in my opinion.
Image

The lens i made on left, with the new reproductions on right.
Image
I sold my old set on ebay.

Also ordered a solid steering coupler from yahoo auctions jp, since i never seen one stateside.
Image

Nardi Classic 350 or 360mm , i forgot

Not gonna run those adjustable tension rods, going with the technotoytuning tension rods instead, so accepting offers for those rods.

Image
Not pictured, picked up the 280zx 79-81 master cylinder to rock with those.

currently finishing up converting to throttle cable. figured the shit i was missing for the throttle links, would be about the same cost to convert to cable.. besides i wanted something a little smoother.
Image

Fun stuff. I picked up a factory works style front lip designed for the stock short nose.. I figured it looked close enough to the G nose lip, but modified for stock front.
Image

Wider, so it needs work
Image

chop it out
Image

Image

narrowed it, cut section out and refiberglass it

Not sure if i am happy with the sides, it might look decent with the lower valance and lip all one color, who knows.. or i may add some fiberglass to the sides.
This was my motivation

got some bc racing coilovers from jpngarage.com
Image
Went with 7k front /5k rear. Im used to 8/6 on my other cars.. figured id run a little stiffer.. most of the jdm coilovers ive seen for s30 seem to run that 8/6 setup, while american offerings tend to be softer (outside of ksport i think).

Got the 4 bolt optional camber plates.. Offers a little more negative camber, just need to drill 2 new holes. Figured id drill the cusco bars and run with them.. Should be nice.. otherwise with the weld-in camber plates, there are no strut bar options unless you get something fabricated up.
Image

retro-spec tall bre style rear spoiler

Got some gappage issues i will have to figure out

I think thats a decent summery of where Im at..

Havent gotten the car running yet, but im close.. its just a matter of finding time to do it. I need to figure out the timing, fuel and tune of the carbs. Im forgetting some small stuff here and there.

Most of it is a collection of parts right now, need to find time to install everything. I need to pull the struts off and take them somewhere to get the coilovers welded on.

Pretty much my motivation

silvermine motors brake hoses on left, apex (ebay) hoses for stock setup on right (sold)

finished powdercoating the mirrors

Went with the ST 240z sway bar set, since the rear bar mounts to the rear instead of in front of the diff (like stock 260z/280z location).

Pretty much the rear setup. Rear sway bar was upside down in this picture, i have corrected it.

Image
I need to find longer studs for the camber plates

Image

Decided I want some better flares. These jdmflares may work for others, but im getting picky lol.. Ordered some Marugens.

Small update
Rear brake conversion
Image
First i installed used maxima calipers from the junk yard, but im not too confident in them being used (i took them apart and replaced seals, but still ), so i'd rather have piece of mind, so i ordered some rebuilt calipers, waiting on those.

I really didn't like the way alot of american cars mount their fender mirrors. They just look incorrect (too forward and inward). I found the reference diagram on the bottom on minkara.carview.jp a few weeks back, i forgot what page exactly.
Top half is what everyone goes by. Which i feel is incorrect. Some guy measured his jdm car's holes , and everyone just reversed it to lhd.. But I swear every car that did that, looks funny http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e77/u ... ors_lf.jpg
http://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/plu ... resize.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l276/ ... C_5431.jpg )

It makes a big difference. Once you realize it, its hard not to notice it.

Image
I also asked mr. shoji inoue (of Star Road) on facebook if the measurements where correct. He was nice enough to send me pics of his measurements, which where very close to that diagram. So i just went with the diagram.

Image

I sold my jdmflares zg flares, and the marugen shouki zg flares arrived today. Can't beat jdm fiberglass. I think Japanese people take extra care and are more passionate when making fiberglass parts.. Just about everything jdm fiberglass Ive worked with was perfect. (I had a origin labs bodykit for my rx7 that I sold, but fitment and quality of that was amazing too).
Image

Look at that fitment!
Image

I know it is a small detail overall, but i won't be running any fender welting/trimming on the flares like everyone else stateside does.

JDM cars don't run any fender welting =)

Oh for the days when you could order the G Nose kit and headlight fairings from the NISMO catalog!
