I found this little rust bucket on craigslist and Im interested in purchasing the car. The owner is asking $2k for it as it sits. its not in running condition (he thinks fuel issue) and is deeply plagued with rust. my question is what is something like this worth and is it too far gone? I am not rich by any means but I want something different and fun just not sure if this is worth trouble but for the right price it might be. just out to get opinions and some advice. what would you guys pay for something like this? thanks to everyone in advance!!

heres pics of the car

I think that's the ONLY part of the car that's intact! That price is purely off the fact that it's RHD, and it's still over priced! That is some bad rust, I think if you had the body cleaned/blasted there'd be a lot more body loss then it even looks. The scary thing is the photo album is dated Dec, 2009... So there's even almost a year and a half more rust!

2K$ car like this costs in our country... Where 15 years old Grand Cherokee costs 10K$ I think in USA it's real price 500-700$, like matt wrote.

sad to see that car was brought over here to die sitting outside...such a shame..that and him wanting 2k for a car thats going to need $$$$ of repair/or loads of work yourself is kinda far fetched. i also agree with 500-700

yea unfortunately I think its too far gone for me and would really need a FULL restoration. not even sure if it would be worth the 500-700 in parts

To me, it'd be worth $1000-1500 at least, but I wouldn't fix it. I'd find a 2-seater S30 shell in good shape and swap all these bits on to it. :tu:

im still kinda thinking about it and he did drop the price I would just hate pulling apart a car like that to put into another, but If I could find a nice 2 seater that would definitely be an option. if anyone is interested and thinks they could save this one heres a link!

It could come back but it would take a lot of work, time, dedication and money. I've seen cars in worse shape than that restored and come back looking great. Once you understand what you'd be getting into I say go for it but at $1250 that price is still too high. $600 is the most I would pay for it.

But say you wanted to build a RHD S30. Buying the parts to convert one would probably cost more than buying this.

It would take some serious dedication. I would probably get it running, slam it and cruise it around just like that as i slowly stash replacement panels for it. Id be curious to see what the important bits look like, because to me it looks like its mostly just panel rust. Whats the frame rails look like? How about the floor? Idk... its just such an iconic vehicle dragged all the way out here from Japan to just rot in a field. If I had 1250 I would snatch it up right-TF-now lol.

it has no floors, whats there is being held together by that tar insulator crap. it would be easier to buy a shell and convert it to RHD, as df mentioned. drop the EFI and throw on a few weber sidedrafts. mmm

If you find a very good panel-maker with the right welding skills, it could be done. But prepare on a lot more rust when the body will be stripped.
