After much waiting, I was able to save up for my dream car, and this one showed up at craigslist at just the right time. I picked her up in Santa Barbara this morning from the second owner who's had it since she bought it at the Datsun dealership in 1979.
Despite being in really nice shape and having a freshly rebuilt engine two years ago, it had clogged injectors, and I had to limp her home. I replaced a few injectors this afternoon, and now am amazed at how quick it is.
It only has 83k original miles. It's a 1977 280Z 4-speed. Best $2900 I've ever spent.
This is one of the happiest days in my life, haha.

Finally finished the repairs, and she actually passed smog with amazingly low emissions. She received headlight covers to celebrate.

Here's a pic of where I got it to before not being able to do anything on it due to a job that didn't really pay. At all.
Image

For a long time it sat parked due to a faulty fuel pump, and me being too broke to replace it.
Image

But after starting a new awesome job, the parts started being collected, and I was able to call on some favors owed me to start a full build on the beloved Z.
Last week it went into the shop to start getting stripped down in preparation for all the stuff about to happen to it.

The tear down has commenced.

This has been picked up, and will be color matched to the new color.
Image

Side trim and marker lights will get shaved, as well as the rear bumper. The slot in the rear will remain for a tow hook or tow strap.

Some corrosion that was hidden by the trim and a previous respray/bondo job was revealed. This will be replaced with fresh metal.

I need to pick up all new weatherstripping this friday as well as some smaller parts, and drop them and a new rear hatch off at the shop next weekend.

I also picked up a spare cam cover to do something fun with.

In the meantime, here's how she sits.

A full 3 years since your last post!!
Always heart-warming when someone manages to come back after some hardship. Glad you're getting stuck into your Zed again. I'm sure she'll end up looking awesome.
Which colour are you going to go for? Heh... I actually too really like the original blue metallic. Each to his own of course...
Best of luck with the resurrection! :tu:

Thanks!
The blue that's currently on it was a respray in Volkswagen techno blue done by the original owner in 1999 (The car came with every receipt dating back to 1979, so it's very easy to pinpoint what has been done with it.)
In the years I've had it, it oxidizes quickly, and the polishing had finally burned through the paint.
The actual original color is 305 Light Blue Metallic.

The color it's going to be shot is BMW Mora Metallic, with Space gray OEM-style power bulge stripe, mirrors, and front and rear spoilers.

Picked up a few more goodies for the Z today. I'll be dropping off these parts as well as a rust free rear hatch tomorrow.

Quarter panel emblems. New Nissan bits!
