Whats up everyone my names Shane and this has been my project for about a year now. First off let me tell you that I am 16 and I have had this car since I was 15. I bought this car for $400 of my own money. It came with a 240z with the L24, cartech turbo kit, and triple carbs. So now for the car she's a Datsun 280z made in January of '75. Right now it has a 2.4 straight 6 backed by a 280zxt 5 speed with triple 40mm Mikuni's and a blowthru turbo setup. As she sits now she is sitting on 240z suspension with unknown lowering springs.

When I first got her

After the junk in her trunk was cleaned out and I rustoleum'd the trunk area and put the stock carpet back in

I bought this car for $1800 of my own money. There's no rich mommy and daddy thing going on here. So now for the car she's a Datsun 280z made in January of '75. Right now it has a 2.4 straight 6 backed by a 280zxt 5 speed with triple Mikuni's and a blowthru turbo setup. The Mikuni's are 40mm and the turbo is a T04B. Once I get this setup going I'm planning on rocking it like this until I get bored then I am putting a 2jz-gte in it. As she sits now she is sitting on 240z suspension with unknown lowering springs. I think the drop is a 2.5" drop because it sits pretty low. Well here are the pics and before you start commenting I know it needs paint LOL.

Between the time that I painted the car and the next update I got a free rust-free gas tank for free and installed it. I also got a TURBO emblem from a 280zxt, and a "I <3 MY DATSUN" sticker

Today I went and picked up my new rims for the Z. They are knockoffs but look really nice on the Z. They are 14x7 0 offset. I have to buy some new lug nuts. Also I found out that who ever installed my lowering spring put the backs in the front and the fronts in the rear that's why it looks like it has no motor. Here they are mounted

Today I washed her and cleaned up the exterior and the wheels. I also put in my homemade gauge panel and boost gauge. I have to find 2 more gauges but I don't know what gauges I want. Anyways here's the pics.

My friend just came over with his Integra and he just happened to park in front of the Z so I took some pics.

I went and bought paint tor black out the whole turbo kit and core support. I'd rather people not know that I'm turbo'd :D Anyway, the valve cover, intake plenum, and intercooler are all wrinkle black. Then I painted the compressor housing of the turbo, and intercooler piping satin black. All in all, I think it looks amazing for $40 worth of paint. Tell me what you think.

I also ordered all new brakes, as in rotors, pads, shoes, and all of the hardware for the rear brakes. I have a new water pump, coolant necks, fuel pump, fuel line, and assorted fittings coming. So there will be progress in the next month or so.

Nope, it's the fact that I painted it with Rustoleum gloss black and a paint brush :D It's a 15 foot paint job.

*edit: You're talking about the valve cover right? That's painted with VHT Satin black wrinkle finish. It dries like that.

It's not perfect, but the surface rust started spreading so I had to do something and that's what I did. I only used a quart to paint the whole car, and the inside floors and the rear tire well. Now that I think about it, I should have done it in silver.

good work, get the suspension woes worked out and you will have a very sleek sleeper with all that blacked out paint.
all in all, i dig it, and i like the fact that you are putting in all this work in your garage, or your folks garage, whatever the case is.
i wish i had a z back when i was your age. i would probably still have it to this day, but live and learn. dont go trading it or selling, or i assure you 20 years from now you will hate yourself..that car will only get rarer, and WAY more expensive!

Thank you, the reason the car sits with a reverse rake is because the PO installed the lowering springs backwards :/ Once I get her running and driving I'm going to swich the springs and while I'm doing that I'll do bustings and that kind of stuff.

Thank you. I tinted my turn signals and tail lights yesterday. I've decided to go with a Night Rider theme so the next thing I'm going to do is paint the stock wheels black and put them on so that the Night Rider theme carries throughout the whole car.

Well, I've finally decided that I'm tired of seeing the Z sit. So I'm going to do a L28et swap and get it running, because I get my license soo and I need something to drive that will get decent gas mileage. The plan is to swap the motor, swap out the turbo with a Garrett unit I have, put a 300zx turbo ECU in, and put some 440cc injectors and call it a day. If I can get it done for less than $2,000 I'd be happy and can still compete in the GRM $2011 Challenge. So if anyone out there has a L28et, let me know :D

Sold the carbs, manifold, and linkage. Bought a L28et long block with 96k for $100, picked up an intake, fuel rail, and throttle body for $50 so I have $150 in the motor so far and I'm going to use a turbo manifold that I have and a Garrett turbo that I have that I was going to use for the Miata I was going to build for the challenge, got it and a couple of other things for $25 from a dad's friend that was getting rid of a bunch of car stuff. I have some 440cc injectors that I got in the deal with the turbo. So slowly but surely the motor swap is getting put together.

Nice! My 75 Z was built in February of 1975 and was the same original color as yours. Just curious, but what's the VIN? Mine's 206845.

^I'll have to check that and see. On the other hand I bought a grenade shifter knob, 3 head gaskets and 2 intake exhaust gaskets (It was a package deal), RCI 5-point Cam lock harness, and the headlight retainer ring so the Z won't look like it's winking anymore. I'm about to buy a prewired Z31 harness and ECU for the 280zx turbo motor.
