Again, sorry for all my questions, but i dont know of a better place to get answers, and i am always trying to learn.

I have a couple L20a's sitting around, and have been thinking about building one for my hakosuka, i have a carbed L20 and a Fuel injected one out of a 76 SGX Laurel. One question i have is what is the difference between the L20's and the L24's and L28's. Obviously it is much harder to find parts for a L20a in the U.S. than a L24 or 28. For instance can i use a aftermarket Cam from a L28?

Next, i also have a friend who has a L28 longblock that i can have, it is out of a 280zx i believe and was fuel injected, are the long blocks different on the fuel injected motor and the carbed motor. I know on the fuel injected L20a i have is the same block as the Carbed one i have.

AFAIK...the L20s have smaller inlet ports (30mm vs 36mm) so any inlet manifold will have to be L20 specific.

I would have thought camshafts would swap over between any L6, but don't quote me on that Early L6s would have had spray bar camshaft lubrication, and later ones had conventional lubrication via oil holes in the cam. But I figure there's nothing to stop you putting a later cam into an early head...

FYI, there is a difference between an L20 and an L20A. They aren't really the same engine.

IIRC, The L20A looks like the regular old L24/L26/L28, while the L20 has a different shaped head and rocker cover and looks very different.

Talk with Tony D on HybridZ. He knows all there is to know about L20's. Has one in a Bonneville car that makes mucho HP.

Most L24, L26 and L28 parts interchange. Becareful with L28 heads on the L20 block. Valves will contact the edge of the bore unless clearanced.

By the way, fuel injected 2.0 liter is an L20E. L20A is to destinguish L20B (4 cyl) and L20 engine from the mid 60's.

Is there a picture of this later style L20A head and rocker cover? I have never seen one. Would be very interested in that head.

And I'd bet this head doesn't fit the standard L block.

it should.... the l24 l26 an l28 can be configured with interchangeable parts..... get a carb manifold and you should be fine.

I'd think you could build one heck of a hybrid L20 using parts from all the L series engines. Perhaps a long rod L20, or a stroker. I've always wanted to build a hot rod L20 6 cyl just to see what it could do. You have combinations of at least 4 different L series engines plus perhaps the NAPS Z (Z22/Z24) and perhaps the L16 and L18 as well. Thats a big pile of easy to find parts. The best thing is that it would look totally stock on the outside. Stick a set of Mikunis on with a good set of headers and you could have a pretty high revving 6 cyl screamer with plenty of usable power.

I say go for it.
