I have been in/into Datsuns for the last 25 years....

My Dad owned a 620 when I was born in 1985,,,,, he later got a 720 flat-bed... ... .. And my Mom has been driving 510s since the early 80s...

All I remember is getting car sick in the back of our old 510,,,,,, ,, All the kids at school made fun of the rusty, faded orange 2 door, with a flat black hood...
I told them it was a race car (but no one believed me)

That 510 was supposed to be my first car,,, , but it was sold when I was 12 yrs old....

So when I turned 16 we got a really rusty 510 with no motor for free......... I parked it in my high school auto-shop for six months, installed a stock L16 with stock carb,
and then I drove it for 5 years (when it ran), and never got a dent in it......... The car was too rusty to restore,,,, ,, so I gave that 510 to my Mom,,,
and she drove it for another 5 years........

8 years ago I bought a less rusty 510:

My mom's rusty blue 510,,,, and my white, BRE flared 510:

This next part is embarassing......... I was younger,,, and stupider.

For some reason I thought a Yamaha motorcycle motor would be a good idea:

Then a CA16DE with plans for a RWD CA18DET transmission:

Can I embed this video?.......... .. Here is a link to the motor running:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IRc-M0P ... re=channel

Thanks DatsunFreak,,,,, I wish I listened to the older guys who told me to keep the L-series 3 years ago
It was easy to pull the L20 and sell all the parts,,,,, but it was alot harder buying all the parts and pieces I needed to get it running again....

If your young,,,,, and really want to try a motor swap: KEEP ALL YOUR OLD PARTS

Sounds killer. :tu:

Not much around that sounds/looks better than a stout L-series with Mikunis on it... 8)

The motor is a L18 with a isky racing cam,,, dual 44mm mikunis,,, nismo comp header,,, 280zx 5 speed,,, IR alt,,, Matchbox dizzy,,, and a Griffin Radiator

My 510 will never be low enough........ .. but I can try:

16x9 -13 watanabes ......... 225/45/16 tires:

Those are 11.5" 300zx rotors........ 2 piston willwood calipers....... QA1 10" coilovers with #225 springs........ stock rear camber,, mini-tubs,, and there is NO room for bigger tires, or wider rims
.

Seeing a modern engine removed and viewed as a bad idea, and an L series go back into the car and being viewed as a good idea, that totally makes my day :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :D

My hat is off to you. 510s need an L series in them (but you can fake it with a Z series block for a little more displacement since the L series head will bolt back on ) Absolutely the right choice for an engine replacement.

The modern engine was a 1987 FWD Nissan Pulsar CA16DE...... It was just the block, and head....... It was missing all the wiring and half the parts needed to get it running...

I am still not %100 shure of what is required to convert it to RWD,,,

I only have 2 of these wheels,,,,, but I wanted to see if they would fit in the front:

16x9 -13.... 225/45/16 tires.......... stock 510 struts shortened 2",,,, camber plates adjusted all the way in, , no spacers:
