Hey all. My mate just bought a hr31, and its having problems turning over, takes a lot of tries to start it and now its not turning over at all. So.. i am thinking its starter motor and was wondering if the australian r31's starter motor will fit on to the hr31.

Edit: Also if anyone has some spare parts they would like to sell or know of anyone that would like to, the car just got back from the suspension shop, and he needs to source some front strut rubber peices that go between the chassis and top of the strut, rear wheel bearings, and power steering pump as normal australian r31's dont fit, that's why i was asking in above question. which is not so quick anymore. lol.

Also, he needs a power window motor.

This car before he bought it, a few weeks ago was not treated very good and hasn't been looked after well at all. So it should be nice again soon =)

RB30 Starter motor should fit, as will one from a later RB20, i.e. R32. Tentatively I'd say any RB one will work...Best shot would be to go to an import wrecker with the offending item and compare and use the newest one which will fit.
Otherwise many auto electrical specialists can rebuild them.

It is a soul destroying trial to try and remove/refit the starter with the engine in the car, I am warning you now.

I believe you can adapt strut tops from the Aussie cars...Have not tried however. I would imagine the rubber is the same for both, get a urethane replacement aftermarket.

Rear wheel bearings, you have two choices. Knock out the old ones and go to a bearing shop, or just buy them new from Nissan (around $270 to kit both sides with bearings and seals).

Power steering pump is dual chamber and unique to HR31s. I threw mine out I am afraid but there would be many places who can rebuild them.

Power window motor should be available new from Nissan ex-Japan in the short term.

Ahh thank you so much for all that info!!
Yesterday we solved the problem, there was some thing connected to the battery and a lead going off somewhere else. still not sure what it was but it was a piece of metal shaped like a semi circle and had another little bit on it that you could click around it. we moved it and it started up. moved it back and it didn't go. so it must be some immobiliser or some sort..

lol its more then likely goin to be the rack itself leaking and not a hose

I think HR31s come from the factory with a power steering leak.

This is a misconception.

Not all R31s had power steering.
