considering a JDM S130 Z 2seater slicktop manual as a possible next car..
kind of have my heart set on a DR30 coupe, however i've also got a soft spot for Z's and that awesome tuned L-series NA bark..
(here in australia we only got the long wheelbase 4 seaters with the ugly T-bar roof..so i'm talking importing a 2 seat slicktop from japan)

as lovely as S30s are, they are becoming quite expensive for good examples..however, the slightly less popular S130s seem to be comparatively reasonably priced still in japan..

i know nothing about the performance of the S130 though, other than that they come with a L28 (carbed or fuel injected?) and are known to be heavier and slower than the 240z/260z..

so my question is: how much lighter is the 2seater slicktop than the 4seater t-top? what are the performance figures? any ballpark figures for stock, light tuned as well as bored/stroked 3.1+cams ?
are there L-series specialists in australia?
suspension and handling?
comparison vs DR30 skyline?

thanks xenonxiii. have just been browsing your site..
unfortunately the japanese brochure is scanned so small the data is unreadable! nice piccies tho...
but lots of other interesting stuff on there nevertheless.

so the stock power output for the 280Z is about 145hp/ps SAE? that seems a bit on the lethargic side..and that is fuel injected right?
what ballpark power could one expect from something like a N42 L28 with triple 45DCOEs and a suitable cam?

Chances are good the JDM-spec engine makes more power than the USDM-spec.

Yes, at least here any Z from '75 on is EFI, not carbed.

Depending on your wallet, anywhere from 180hp to 300hp.

my Z, with stock EFI and the following mods laid down 130whp and 152ft lbs tq:

Cressida AFM (larger than stock NA)
KA24 Throttle Body
N42 intake manifold completely shaved and port matched on the intake runners as well as the Throttle body opening
clifford research 6-2-1 header
2.5" exhaust, no cat, and dual cherry bomb mufflers

back when she was stock, albeit with a Flowmaster muffler and no cat, she laid down 113whp and 145ft lbs

keep in mind, this is with an untouched 140k+ bottom end and a rebuilt N47 head.

also, cars in Japan I BELIEVE were L24/L26 powered until '79 when the S130 chassis came out, then they moved to the L28E with EFI.
