I have a 1975 SWB Mitsubishi Model J26 "Jeep".

I am looking to change or convert the original 4 speed gearbox (attached to the 2.4 Ltr 4G53 "ASTRON" engine)
to a 5 speed or attach a suitable overdrive.

The little truck runs very well but it revs hard above 55 Mph.

As I use it daily any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards
Bernard (UK)

Im guessing the G54 or G52 series would fit to your jeep. Take the back plate and see if the holes matched.

gonna have to find a narrow 5 speed box. Since the g5 series didnt go wide until 83 or so. A 5 speed from a 80s 4g63 truck should work.

I decided to go for a unit made by Herm Tilford who is based in the USA - you can find him on the web under Herm The Overdrive Guy.

I've been running with one of Herm's overdrive for 9 months now and can thoroughly recommend it. The only slight problem is it tends to pop out when not in overdrive when I'm reversing but thats probably more down to wear in my gear box.

Sounds more like bearing wear if it's popping out of gear.

Have any pics of the od setup?
