Hi,
I'm normally lurking over in the Mazda garage as Im an Rx2 and rx3 owner. Anyway yesterday i bought a 50,000 mile granny spec 1974 Colt Gt. I drove it 5+ hours from the town its been in its whole American life with no real problems except for a dodgy carb that makes it stall accelerating from a stop. I plan on rebuilding the carb but really want to do a manual transmission swap. So from what I know its a 4g52 2.0l engine, so what 5 speed boxes are compatible? from a little internet searching a Dodge D50 or Mitsu Mighty Max run the same 2liter. Right? Im a little confused on all of the narrow block vs wide block bell housing stuff too. Anyone here elaborate? Also by looking at the cluster of shit in the left of the firewall these were cable operated clutches(no room for clutch master) so what compatible gearboxes were also cable? D50/mighty max? Any info would be much appreciated

At the risk of going against Matt's wishes, I will offer the following. Your 4G52 2.0 should be narrow, so a 4G63 D50 trans should work. IIRC, the later KM132's have a different spline on the output, requiring a driveshaft swap and it's possibly a bit longer overall? There is supposedly a bolt in, but I can't recall at the moment. The earlier KM132 from say an Arrow should be able to use the original driveshaft, but the shifter hole on either transmissions are 2" further back as is the crossmember location. On a 2nd gen, that is not that big an issue as there are multiple holes in the frame rail. You will just need to play with spacers to get the trans mount to match or slot the crossmember. You will probably need a donor to grab the clutch cable mount from the firewall (or fab you own), but hopefully you can get the pedal set from the same car. Pretty much all RWD 4 cylinders were cable clutch. Now, you really owe us some pics!

Mark, was the other 5spd trans you were thinking of, the KM119? The 5spd for the Colt cars.

Yes Torana it's orange with the black stripe and it's in fantastic shape. There is not one rip on the interior all the vinyl is still soft. It has A/C too. It has 50,440 miles and I read it had an oil change at 50,017 miles in 1994! I do want to keep it stock but do a 5 speed swap without hacking it up. If I can't I'll leave it or sell it on.

Yeah, KM119. Must have been on autopilot. KM119's are harder to find than the 132's. I would probably lean more towards the 132 just due to future availability.

Yeah I just went through this crap haha. If it's the narrow (12 1/4" between bottom bellhouse bolts) and not the wide (13 1/4" between) then I'm pretty sure the KM119 is what you will be needing. I just happened to find a rebuilt one on ebay right when I needed it. If you replace it, make sure the rear seal is for a KM119, they are just barely smaller than the KM132 rear seals.
