 Post subject: Who's running an electric fuel pump?

The diaphragm in my mechanical just failed. I hit the auto parts store and would have to order the mechanical but they had an electric in stock. I took it, jerry rigged the wiring and got the car home.

Going to do a clean install in the next week and not sure what to do with the accelerator pump part, i left it unhooked just to get the car home but it had no balls.

Right now I've got the fuel line coming up the the filter hooked to my fuel pump inlet, then from the pump outlet to the top feed on the carb.

The two lower fittings that run through the accelerator pump are unhooked, how should I route my lines?


Also, I put my 73 bumpers on the sedan yesterday.

your manual, which I still have, says to run like this:

Anyways, I installed one to see if it would solve my lean cruise issue, but it did not.
I powered it from the coil +, and grounded it to the body, and ran it literally, in place of the mechanical.
(Tank)->(filter)->(Pump)->(vapor can)->[Carby]->(return to tank)
I do however have the "vapor seperator" that you don't for some reason.

^ lol the wagon has a lot of mismatched parts it seems.

Sorry if that manual is a bit dirty, I used it quite a bit on my cars :lol: :roll:

Anywho, I noticed it says "Cars For USA Only" on top of that page... so I dunno, maybe yours is a ferner 'er somethin.

I run an electric fuel pump on my Fire Arrow, but I'm also running sidedrafts instead of the standard Solex/Mikuni 2bbl downdraft (which is what I assume we're talking about here). I also have a regulator (with a pressure guage) in-line on the set-up, after the filter, and before the fuel line goes to the carbs. The Mikuni sidedrafts use a low-pressure system; 2-4 psi. I'm running mine at just about 2.5 psi.

I don't know if the mechanical pump is a high or low pressure delivery system; that would seem to be the only variable in the equation that may have changed with the electric pump that you installed. I don't know for sure, but it seems like a logical place to start; what is the pressure requirement for the S/M downdraft with the accelerator pump hooked up and working (?)

I'm not trying to play "know-it-all," but just trying to help. :)

Interesting, my does not have the vapor can and my fuel pump has 3 outlets on it. But knowing that's how it's set up; I can just T this pump for the install.

Coil positive makes the pump run when the key is on right? I think I'm going to try and find an oil pressure switch so the pump only runs when the vehicle runs.

Well it's in, I T'd the pump outlet and ran one to the bowl of the carb and one to the accelerator pump, the outlet of the accelerator pump was ran to the tank return.

Simple and sweet. Wiring was ran to coil positive, works just fine.
