yeah I was there. Have a heacache from all the base they were playing in the morning. Wish they would play downtemp or something.

So the day I left fire, the car developed a ignition issue. I havent figured out with it is. My old set of points seem to be pretty burned up so I swapped them out and it fixed some of it. Found a spark plug had come loose as well. Tomorrow I will go reset the points gap and get a new condenser as well. Maybe a new cap rotor n plugs. I installed a electric fuel pump as well thinking maybe my mechanical was going out. Either way it's pissing me off.

So I broke a piece of piston off a while back, probably from this new fuel pump I had bought failing hard

For the time being since money is tight and I have the challenger engine out, I'm going to just toss the damn g54b turbo engine into the lancer. Just a stock rebuilt engine with a 14b at stock boost and a 5 speed pree 88 starion transmission.

I'll be running a 88 starion harness and ecu, stock starion fuel pump, and I will probably try and adapt these starion struts to the lancer, as it will need the extra brakes something serious with this new engine lol.

Anyone taking bets on how long my open stock rear end lasts? I'm hoping a while at stock boost, but thats asking a lot for a 160mm ring gear and a torque monster turbo 4. Hopefully I will have this finished up by the end of the week.

Made some good progress today. The engine is bolted in, the trans should be bolted in tomorrow.

Engine bolted in with the g54b mounts, the trans mount looks like it will be pretty simple. I flipped the crossmember off the lancer and used the stock starion mount. it seems to sit perfect, well other than I need to cut out about 2 1/2 inches out of the shifter area to get the trans up. I should be able to just make a small plate for the bottom of the slit and bolt it in I'm almost willing to bet they make a 5 speed mount for the lancer that would be a direct bolt on for the km132 starion trans, but eh, I'll do it this way for now.

The drive shaft should work once I go get a g63b mighty max slide yoke to swap onto the lancer driveshaft.

Looking good, that engine really gets around, doesn't it? 8)

How are you going to mount the intercooler? Looks like you have a lot less space in the Lancer's bay than in the Challenger's.

In fact, should you even bother with an intercooler? That engine would be putting out around 150-160 horsepower without an intercooler (I think) and that's double what the Lancer came with originally. Too much overkill in the engine bay and this incarnation of the Lancer won't have a very long road-life.

I havent decided. There is plenty of room up front, I have 2 massive intercoolers and one stock starion ic left. I think I will probably just run a 88 injection setup so it will be intercooled. Should be putting out about 170 non intercooled I figure since the 14b flows quite a bit more and its on a 10lb wastegate. I figure as long as I cruise it she wont break the rearend. There is a firearrow at the junkyard, and I think im going to try and grab the axle off it. Those should be 170mm right?

And yeah that engine is a whore lmao. 3rd car its been in with under 2000 miles on it  I have another g54b thats nearly finished being rebuilt, and since I have a lot of crap to do on the challenger, this was the cheapest swap.

You already have a 170mm diff, the midsize from a 2.6 car is the 180mm.

ok, got myself confused. So are these 170 actually weaker than a r160 510 diff? I've seen those last quite a while behind a srdet, but thats not abvusing it. You'd think with the larger gear it would hold up. Is it the axles that are the weak point?

So would the 74 colt gt I had have a 180mm? For some reason I thought the lancer had a even smaller diff than the galants.

Consider it this way, that is the same size gearset in all the AWD 4 cyl Mitsues. That means it is the same size gears as an EVO X.

The only weak links are spider gears, the 2 liter rear are a bit larger and equal to the later cars. Your axles are the same as the 22 spline axles in a 3 bolt rear in an Eclipse.

You can swap in the Fire Arrow rear and have little chance of hurting that or get a 2 liter gearset and use an EVO diff with Fire Arrow axles.

Compared to the small Datsun / Subaru axle, these are stronger.

That FA axle with a Starion LSD would be about as good as you can get.

Did you like the shorter gears in your Sapporo?

The shorter gears are alright. I had so much wheel spin in the challenger that it was kinda pointless. I'm having a lsd machined down right now for it actually, but I may toss it in the lancer if I get that axle. The challenger was a scarry ride, on bumps and then I got a clunking sound. The bushing had completely left my idler arm and it was clunking around, made for a run highway ride on bald front tires and a really bad rain storm. I had 3.9 in that 74 galant witht he non intercooled g54b and the gearing suited it pretty good. With the worn out suspension it would throw the front tires damn near off the ground from a first second lol. The only thing I dont like about the 3.9 is the highway rpm, as I drive a ton of highway miles.

The FA axle will be a 3.545 and as light as this car will be may suit you better.

isnt there a arrow gt which had the 2l in it? Would that be the same axle as the fire arrow or?

No, The Arrow Gt has a 170mm diff with the heavy ring gear as currently used today with the longer 22 spline axles. Overseas this size axle is available with the 25 spline shafts in the AWD Lancer wagon from the late 90s.

I'll have to double check it was a fire arrow and not a gt.

Right now im having a debate if I should bother with a starion trans I have bolted in now, or go blow another 120 bucks on a d50 trans to avoid the heacache of trying to get a hydraulic clutch pedal mounted. It appears the main wiring harness runs right through where I need to mount the master. A d50 trans would solve all the issues...

Just keep in mind if you start playing hard you can wipe out the input bearing of the D50 trans. They are only rated for 175 ft-lbs.
If you have nice firm engine mounts to reduce wheel tramp it may last quite awhile.
Besides the shifter will be in the right spot.
