Great result Dave, hard work has really paid off :tu:

Did you block the clear coat and buff it or is it straight off the gun ?

Either way Dave it really looks great, I think your've set a new benchmark for old cars 8)

Knocking off any peel gives it a better look in my opinion as well, there's alot of blocking when painting a car.... you miss a spot (high or low spot) it'll play havik when blocking the paint.... although you already know that

How many hours do you think your've invested in the paint stage (from bog work -> buffing) ?

Ive spent the weekend travelling to rural NSW picking up stuff for the coupe(were'nt as good as I had hoped)... the guy had a really nice Mercury Blue Rx3 coupe with an Rx8 renaissance 13B bridgey. Makes me wonder why I want a 10a seeing this thing. I didnt travel 1000km (one way trip) to comeback empty handed, price was right so took everything. I thought I was going to run out of gas in the middle of literally no where.. no street lights, only snakes, kangaroos and funnel web spiders :( I should've extended my trip up to RestoreMaz to take a look !

The hours would be through the roof...all i can say, is i have one very sore back...i feel like im in my late 70s !!

It was a last minute decision to use an Acrylic clear, and chop it back to buff..

I was looking at photos of my old Rx3 in the 90s a few weeks ago, and couldnt get over how flat and glassy the acrylic finish was, so i went for it...

Bit of extra work, but you just cant beat that flat buffed look...

awesome build mate, i love the bugeyes the car is looking perfect,

quick question in regards to you old purple coupe, what guard mirrors were they? as they dont look like the series1 one's ive seen? and im finding it near impossible to find a set that are even needing repairs so was even concidering something else that looks close to the originals and repainting them in the Grey,

Sorry Restoremaz, not trying to hi-jack your thread, but those mirrors have an uncanny resemblance to the ones on my RX2, which are TE27 Levin ones.......

Image

If correct, I have the part numbers for you Matt...available brand new ex Japan from your local Toyota a dealer.. :D
