Looks like a mid to late sixties familia coupe, but i reckon that it has had R100 tail lights put in it? Thats my guess....

That is a 1966 Mazda 1000 MPA Coupe with R100 tail light modification.

right on Madaz, MPA is the chassis configuration for the 1000 coupe. Can't say I've seen the round light swap, not my cup of tea really

Found these photos in a 1966 Familia catalog from Japan. It looks to be a "base" model with round tail lights. Must have been a JDM only.Image

Yes it is the base model 800/1000 for domestic market that was carrying those tail lights, but never seen a coupe carrying those. 1000 coupe had not that wide variety of models like the 2 and 4 door sedans. 1000 coupe was up spec anyway.

The 1000 coupe is a pretty little car, its a pity that they arent popular amongst restorers. They seem to sell pretty cheap in Australia when they come up for sale.

I think the lack of knowledge and spare parts scares people off gypsy.

I know that when I've mentioned them to other people, people have argued that there was only the 1000 ute.

A mate of mine imported that black 1000 coupe from Australia into New Zealand at least 8 years ago in original white paint with running piston motor he then on sold still in stock form, he also already had the parts car that comes with it now.

Not sure on the round lights either, but these are very thin on the ground now in good restorable condition.

Love the JDM Famila pic.

One stunning looking car, thanks to Italy :P I've seen the round taillights also on official pics from the Japanese press site of the sedan. I thought it was the 700 Concept from that time but probably a base model like you guys said

Hmmm...maybe. But this is a 2-door sedan, as opposed to the Coupe. I have never seen or head of a 1000 Coupe with round tail-lights in Australia (where the NZ car came from, yes?), also the tails on the NZ car are round, but much bigger than the sedan above...someone's just gone for a 'custom' look, it's not genuine in this case.
