This is my 1977 Mazda 818 coupe. Bought it 5 years ago from the first owner, a very old man, who was to affraid to drive it any longer. The last 5 year's in his possesion, it only drove 25km's a year. To the garage for a check up and back. It runs the original stock 1300cc ohc engine. Current milage: 65.000km.

At first, i didn't like the colour at all. I bought the car, because it was in a very good condition. 70's mazda's in such condition are very hard to find over here, so i thought, FARK the colour i'll take this one.

now, 5 years later i realy love this colour.

Awesome coupe, but in my opinion, I'd put the guages inside the car in a more discreet location, and put the tailights back to stock.....otherwise its a very nice example!

I didn't want to make holes in the dash, that's the main reason for putting them outside. I made everything in such a way, that it can be removed without leaving a trace.
For now i like the kind of rally look, white wheels, foglights on the frontbumper, green sunvisor on the frontwindow, black autoplas sunvisor on the backwindow.
Just want extend that look a little and maybe in a couple of years, when i'am tired of it, i'll take everything off and bring it back to original.

Glad to hear you are keeping it as an 818 8)

These are also available for sidedraught 40's

Image

Also Mazda UK made a limited run of manifolds for the 323 back in '77 to run twin downdraught DCNF's

Keep up the good work

Just following on from mazdamans comments, if you go down that path it may be worth looking at very early model Ford Lasers 81?? specs. These were a joint venture between Mazda and Ford. If the head is the same unit as the early model Mazda motors then its also worth keeping an eye out for a twin carb manifold off the sport version. These most likely would have run either Dellortos or Webers with a factory setup. I think these were downdraught not side draught though.

The car was also sold with the Mazda 323 badge in Australia (less popular), Laser's were practically everywhere back in the day. I'd hate to think how many have been crushed !

I know, but bought the car that way. Can't place the chrome on the right side, because of the two screw holes i have to weld up, if i do so.
