During the last forum crash, i lost my username, and all of my old threads. The mods couldnt explain what hapened, so i started a new acount.

This thread is to replace my rx5 build thread, but with not as much photos and some pics of the new project.

This is the rx5, which was to be thrown to scrap metal. I saved the car, gave it a quick tidy up and put it back on the road. It was sitting in the weather for 10 years.

The engine was smokey from the start, but after having it on the road for 8 months, i decided to pull it out, rebuild it and bridge port it.

Ive had the rx5 on the road for over a year now, runs and drives nice. still a few little things to do, like put the sill moulds on. i also wrecked this 121 for the original dash facia a couple of months ago, stil yet to be put in the car...

New project.

In the early 1980s, our family car was a series 4 capella. This is the only photo my dad had of the car.

Image

I spotted the car 20 years later on my way to work one morning, still with the original number plates on it for sale at a local wreckers.

I bought the car, repainted it, and put a 12a and 5 speed in it.

Finished...

It was finished and on the road for two weeks, then brutally murderd by a bus that went through a stop sign.

the engine was pushed into the fire wall, the roof was kinked, it wasnt worth fixing. the car was stripped of the running gear and some other good parts, and thrown to scrap.

I have always wanted to do a replica of this car, and now after about ten years its going to hapen!

I recently aquired this capella, form the orginal owner who purchased it new in 1975.

This is Judy , with her pride and joy the day i picked it up..

Image

It has rust here and there, but has only done 120,000 km and drives like new.

Ive bought a few parts over the last few weeks, including some new whitewall tyres. i will start the project very soon, and upload some pics.

Noticed your account when missing. I really like those 121 Landaus too.

Such a shame about the family car. I know the feeling.

Glad you started a new thread restoremaz i loved reading through your builds and getting the motivation up to work on my own  your old brown Capella was a gorgeous car! Such a shame to see it mangled like that :( do you recall what spring/shock combo you used in it? Would love my S4 to sit the same.

Great pickup on the white S4 as well! I assume the plan is to go the same colour etc as your previous one? If you decide to part with the dashmat and weathershield please shoot me a PM i'd love to buy them off you :D

the springs were just standards, re set 2 inches. shocks were standard also.

I also bought a genuine REAPS muffler tip for the RX5. I gave it to a sheet metal place, and had it copied so i have one for the capella once the rotary goes in.

nice one Dave,

i love these s4 Capella i had a 4 door just the same as this one, white colour, brown interior, pin stripe and stock as a rock floating suspension. it was a 2 owner car and need some TLC but for the $500 i paid for it was a reliable and cheap car to drive ($10 for about 300km)
which was the means to a end as the little 1600 motor has some poke and spun the wheel coming around a corner in the wet and back end stepped out, the floating suspension caused a over correction and slamming it into a gutter and ride off. chassis twisted

Cant wait to see what you do with it

it was on of those motors, if driven at low revs it pig rooted and shit to drive, but stick the foot to the ground it drove like a dream didn't miss a beat and with the skinny 165 or 185 on it it was not hard to spin them.... add water on the road and turning a corner, then bam the boat's ass end snapped out and then bang to the curb  :o :(. never got a chance to convert it to rotary

Awesome Dave!. Your work is top notch for your customers (like myself 8) ) so I can only imagine how tidy the old girl will come up. Keep the updates coming, or the time lapse clips, they were pretty cool too.
