As my coupe is still a fair way off being completed, I have bought an "interim" toy, with the support of my fantastic wife!!

Tonight I picked up my red series 2 RX7......gee it feels great to back behind the wheel of a rotary again!

Car is basically stock standard apart from extractors and a rotaflow exhaust....12a, 5 speed, stock rims, red with the maroon interior.

All electrics still work, drives great!!

I will be doing a few tidy up jobs on the car, bit of detailing, polish the factory alloys etc. the only major thing wrong with it is the seats are coming apart in a few places at the seems. Combination of being 30 years old and the harsh Aussie sun I reckon.

Will post up some pics on the weekend when I get to spend some quality time with my new baby

Nice. Glad you found something to play with in the mean time. Its good to have a spare toy when one is down.

So I spent all day playing with Hanna (that's her name) giving her a good going over......but forgot to take pics.....will get some in the morning and post 'em up!

What I did get done was a good interior clean, pulled the dash apart and reconnected all the disconnected wiring....console lights, interior lights, clock light, lighter etc and actually put screws back in so the dash doesn't rattle. Also put a JVC iPod head unit in her so I can have some tunes. Had it sitting in the shed, so thought why not!!

Pulled the door trims off, removed the shitty central locking kit, cleaned inside the doors and cleared the drains and put a heap of fish oil in. Pleasantly there is no rust in either door!!

Put graphite powder in the window guides and got them going a whole lot faster too.

Screwed the steering column shroud together, fixed the horn, found the indicator canceller is busted so just ordered a new one as well as a bonnet rod holder clip.

Cleaned up the steering wheel as it had a tacky red and black cover....that was glued on!!

Fitted new pedal rubbers and new mats.

On the outside touched up a couple of small chips, put the wipers back in their normal position as they were sitting half way up the window.

Polished the front window and hatch glass, removed the excess silicon on the hatch glass from plugging up the wiper hole, scrubbed all the rubbers, degreasers, cleaned and fish oiled the drainage channels in the hatch...

Also fine sanded and polished up the South Oz style dump exhaust tip and reprinted the rotaflo in heatproof black.

Gave it a good wash, cleaned all the moldings, badges etc

Also put a JNC sticker on it!!

Polish and wax next to get some extra shine on the old girl!!

Gave the engine bay a quick squirt with degreaser and the hose, touched up a couple of paint chips....

Going to give the factory alloys a polish, will attempt to do them myself. Want to black out the indented bits in the spokes.

Pics tomorrow.

So basically just fixed up shit all day

Haha, yeah my daughter loved it. Just trying to make it smell a bit better after the fish oil session on the weekend.

Also looks like I've found a nice set of s3 seats for her.

Gave the 7 a quick buff on the weekend. Needs some quality time spent on the paint to get it at it's best, but came up pretty good with just a quick session.

Put 2 coats of wax on her as well for protection and to keep that "wet look".

Also gave it a service, new oil, filter etc and changed the coolant. Got a new aerial, new bonnet rod clip holder and indicator cancellor too.

Now need to get stuck into the rims and polish them up to a mirror finish and redo the blackouts in charcoal grey. Got the paint and everything ready to go, just need some time.

Hopefully will have new front and rear seats tomorrow night in the original trim pattern.....

Next up are door rubbers, tie rod ends, repaint door frames and mirrors.....

Planning on doing new shocks in the next few months, so may add super low springs at the same time.....am a bit hesitant as my driveway is a bitch, but wil see how we go.

If the weather is not shit on the weekend I will grab some more pics of how she is looking now....

Only other plans are to keep racking the Km's up on her!!!

Did you wax the windows & wheels too? It helps to keep bugs/brake dust from sticking. :tu: Typically after a wax I'll use spray wax on the car when I wash it. After your final rinse, just spray it on while it's still wet and dry off as normal. It's a good "maintenance" trick to do between wax jobs, and saves time, especially since your garage is starting to look like mine. It's hard to find time to wax every week when you have four cars that want to be waxed.

Haven't actually tried the windows before....

Wheels will cop some wax after I have polished and clearcoated them.

I too use a spray wax after normal washes. Meguiars do a great one calles xpress wax in their trade based range. Works a treat and polished off easily. Great for keeping it topped up between proper waxes.

Just scored a MOMO Corse wheel for the 7. Still have the boss (and steering wheel) from my last RX7.....will just clean and reuse for the new wheel.

Hopefully it will be easier to get my knees under the wheel when i get in now. No easy feat when your are 6'3"....

Picked up a close to mint set of front AND rear seats tonight. They came out of an identical red series 2 that is being turned into track weapon.

Best of all they are exactly the same trim as my originals, only about 700 times better!! Only damage is on the top vinyl bit of the drivers side where people put their hands on the seat to climb in the back. Should be an easy fix.

Even the foam is still good, where my originals have sagged and the steel rails dig into my butt when I drive.

Just need to give them a vac and fit them.

This car is getting better by the day.....

Now to find some time to polish these rims..... :D
