She's pretty rusty alright Dave. I don't think I've seen rust like that along the roof gutters before. Was it the Astro Purple before being blasted?

I see roof rust like that on cars over here in the states that had those dodgy dealer installed vinyl tops. You've got a big project there mate but I've seen your work so itll turn out nice. Btw did you get the 929 for free? Having that on the truck when old mate drove up was a nice stoke of luck even if you paid a little for it.

Looks like a lot of metal work to do. Isnt it easyer to make this RX4 donor for your 929 and convert it to RX4?

Making me feel better about my jump off point. That one is rough. Serendipity that the guy pulls up next and offers the parts car to you while you're bringing it home. Wish that would've happened to me! Trim and pieces look good, though.

Will be watching your progress!

Cheers!

Well, I'm at work (7 days of triple time during the holidays!) and I love the fact there are people are putting serious effort into the rotary coupes. I grew up with them as a young driver in West Seattle, and there was a few of every model ripping around. These days there are NONE. Now, when I drive my S30 around, people are constantly honking and talking to me about it. I can only imagine what it would be like if I roll the Rx2 or 4. Someday......

Thats what every body says...but its just not right.

As long as you do a proper restoration you are right, but if you planing to put new motor in and do other crazy stuff it dosnt realy metter.

Nice work dave!

I'll never tire of your handy work. Can't wait to see the final product, I've always had a big soft spot for rx4's.

It does matter. Modified or not, an RX4 is still an RX4, something a 929 will never be, it's worth the extra effort to not have a mock up IMHO.

Hi RestoreMaz,

Nice project you got there, hope your friend keeps it original. - To many old Rotarys have been butchered up and to see a original one today is rare...

I noticed this Rx-4 have the Wheel arch moulds but not the front valance crome..?
- What was the correct spec on Rx-4 in Australia, what models did get the Wheel moulds and the Valance crome...? - Was moulds a Factory option in AU...?

I just found a set of the Rx-4 Wheel arch moulds in Japan, just took me 8 years to find them...!

Also, those Door mirrors, what brand are they...? - Taillights, are they US spec lights...?

Keep up the good work,

Regards - Fredrik

Thats just awsome how some fella said i got one if you need parts at the lights. That will save plenty of time and make it so much easier to do(RX4-not 929) !

No boddy likes a clone

With two guys working on it i am keen to see the progress of this one 8)

Reguards Kurt.

Hope the project goes ahead, but if not i would love a few of the parts you cut out of the 929 if he does decide to scrap it. Would you beleive my RX4 is even the same colour as this RX4.

Let me know if interested, Good luck!!!!

cheers

Terry

Wow big project guys. I guess at least your confident that the car hasn't been in a crash like pretty much every other Mazda on the planet.

Should end up being a very nice car when your finished.
