Taking a look tomorrow at an 85 GLC. I think its a cool little car with some potential but as this would be the first time laying hands on anything outside the Toyota world, I'm a little n00b-ish as what to look for.

Anything specific to the car or generation that I should look for or be aware of?

rust in the rear panel below the rear hatch near the gutters, check for blocked drainage hole in the rear as well and look inside the rear part so you're looking at the back of the tail light behind the carpet feel up under the gutter and look for rust.

Get a compression test!

compression test recently done by owner and looks fine on all cylinders, will take a look at the areas described when there today to look again!

Thats great to hear but the Rx7's dont have any cylinders!

GLC is 323, 5 door or 3 door?

Should be the E5 1.5 litre engine in both variants - well Oz versions anyhow. Motor wasn't too bad but you always seem to need to adjust the valves - can be noisy. Just make sure the rocker cover hasn't cracked as they can crack when tightened too much. The water pumps also seem to leak as well.

If you can road test, keep an ear out for front wheel bearing noise, they are a little prone to wear and are quite an expensive job over here to do.
