New to the Honda scene

Just purchased my first Honda, a 1985 Honda CRX Si. Super clean inside and out. 118k miles. Only problem is that the motor has a bad knock, I mean really bad. Haven't diagnosed it yet but also wondering if there is an equivalent motor from any other Hondas I can drop in. The motor I believe is a D15A3 1.5L.

I would like to keep it close to stock as possible. Thanks

ok well come to find out after purchasing the car and then tinkering around with it that the rod knock the owner was talking about wasnt a rod knock after all. After closer inspection it was a loose idler pulley coupled with the water pump grenading itself.

well after 3 hours of replacing all that it ran awesome.

Nice!!! Glad it was a simple fix instead of a new motor.

Not much of a honda guy, so no advice on motor. Since there is no knock you may just want to start a search for a spare and see about building it up.

Whats your plans for the Si?

Glad to hear your engine is ok, the car looks great.
Had your engine indeed been dead I'm sure there are no end of 'd' series engines available to fit from DOHC to VTEC, as well as larger engines that can & have been fitted before, with redpepperracing being one early CRX & 3rd gen Civic specialist fan website/forum.

you werent kidding about them D series motors. I really have no plans in making it go fast. I just want to keep it as original and reliable as possible.

Its a blast to drive.

That is a sweet Si you found there - so original! I have the same car but needs some TLC. I understand the need for speed but your car is such a rare time capsule it would be a shame to swap out the engine. They're only original once! Enjoy one of the greatest cars Honda ever produced!

Wow nice car, I have a black 85 Si as well. Rare first year car as it was only made for 1 year like that.
