My name is Laken. I'm Alaskan born, and now residing in the Omaha, Nebraska area. I worked as a professional automotive mechanic for over 7 years, I ran a racing club in my younger (and stupider) days, and I've been a lover of fun cars since before I was old enough to drive legally. I don't have any cool old cars right now, but I'm still a big fan of them! I have a particular fondness for Datsun's, and I've been the proud owner of two of them (a '71 240Z and an '83 280ZX). I'm actually looking for the third one now... or maybe a Toyota... too many wonderful cars to choose from!

In the meantime, I have a '67 Bridgestone 175 Hurricane Scrambler to work on. That's an old Japanese motorcycle that was made by the same company that makes tires and bicycles. They're kinda rare in the USA, which is part of the reason I'm restoring it. I still have a long way to go on it, but I'm making steady progress.

My DD is just a Scion tC that's tastefully modified for handling ability. No flashy lights, no crazy body kits, no "hellaflush", no ear-blowing stereo. It's not that fast, but it's moderately fun and it gets me around reliably.

Thanks! I actually just finished posting in the JNM thread. There's a few pics of it in there, from when I bought it.

The bike:

And if anyone cares, here's my build thread from my local car club for my Scion (all pics are in the first post):

The Scion is sold and gone, replaced by a 1971 Datsun 510 2-door with a 4-speed! I bought it from a pastor in Salem, OR for $4,500. In addition to the car, the sale also included the original L16 peanut (the car has an L18 peanut installed), an extra set of tires, an extra set of taillights, an extra domelight, a bunch of other miscellaneous extra parts, and a book about how to take care of it. It has no significant rust anywhere that I've found so far, the interior is in incredibly good condition, and it runs and drives pretty damn well for a 41 year old car. It also has the factory tachometer and dual SU caruretors! I actually drove it from Salem, OR to my home in La Vista, NE - about 1800 miles - 2 days after I bought it! It has a few minor issues, as they all do, but they're nothing that I wont be able to fix. Thanks to some wonderful help from Eric and Ryan at JDM Legends and Allan at Utah Imports, my friends and I, along with both the Datsun and our support vehicle, made the long journey successfully.

Now... where to start with the restoration...?
