Hey guys (and gals), a new member here from Brisbane, Australia. I assume there are plenty of Aussies on here already, as we love our Jap stuff.

Reason for my joining is that I recently had a weak moment, purchasing on a whim a relatively uncommon piece of Jap history to save it from a wrecking yard.

I am now the proud owner of an RN16 Hilux which will be, in the long term, receiving a body-off restoration... or as the buzzword goes, the "restomod" treatment... but I hate buzzwords so I'm not going to call it that. I'm very much into retaining a mostly period appearance, while modernising the running gear & conveniences. In other words, the best of both eras.

A picture of the ute below, unfortunately the picture is very flattering as the car has benefited from a tough life and a generous helping of body filler. As best I can tell there's as much as an inch of filler in places.

You wonder why people go to so much time, trouble & expense to do poor quality repairs... when with very little in the way of specialised skills or tools you can do a sound & high quality repair. In a way I'd like to start with a better cab, but at the same time I see it as an achievement to save a car from certain death & hopefully I'm leaving better examples (if they exist) to others who might not otherwise be brave enough to take on one like this.

Wish me luck!

Hey mate,

Welcome abroad, that's the one from ebay recently wasn't it? I love old JNC utes so I'm hearing you with the body filler, seems to go hand in hand most of the times with aussie ute!!

I'll keep an ear to the ground to see if anything pops up to help the build.
