Trying to help out a friend...he picked these up in Japan but can't figure out which particular model they are beyond being American Racing.

Hex threaded center caps say American Racing
3pc wheel made in Japan
16x7 & 16x8 both around +26
20 hole lips with allen head bolts

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

My guess is Southern Ways/Epsilon? What is stamped on the rim half in the second picture?

Looks like someone just stuck American Racing stickers on the center caps.

If the rim halves are sealed with silicone (not welded, gasket, or )-ring), I think they ARE Southern Ways ( = Epsilons). I worked at Epsilon for about 2 years while going to school. Epsilon was just the (exclusive) US distributor for Southern Ways wheels but only brought in four (mesh, round aero, flat aero, 5-spoke) center styles out of the Southern Ways catalog which is why they look different.

Your wheels look like they are 16inch Reverse style wheels but the valve stem location is what makes me unsure. Reverse wheels (15-inchers) usually had the stem in the middle of the lip. OTOH, I don't really remember 16inch Reverse wheels that well.

615R should be the rim size: 16 inch rim, 1.5 inch lip, reverse. The back half should have a stamping 655R (for 7inch wheel) or 665 (for 8 inch wheel).

Unless someone knows differently... ?

I had a set of gold Epsilons on my TE70 '82 SR5 hardtop, back in '91... and the mesh spoke toward the lip, looked different than those.

They may be a set of JDM made BBS... seeing since some BBS were not only made in Germany, they were also made in Japan.

BBS has had a factory in Japan, since the 80's. :)
