...Does anyone have any experience with having fabricated a metal Ferrari style shiftgate for... Anything that wasn't originally intended to have one?

How dumb is this idea? Does it work at all? Significantly impede shifting (as I've heard that they can be rather annoying, even on Ferraris, though my mind likes to pretend they'd make shifting easier for some reason)...

I'm mostly just playing with the thought in my mind, and it's probably odd that this is one of the only mods I'd ever consider doing on my completely stock car but... Any feedback? I just like the neat, precision look of the gates, so please don't think I'm too ridiculous

Hah. I'd love to have one of those Ferrari gates, to fool people into thinking I had a five speed

...In reality I'm still probably not going to do this. I could probably make a fiberglass bezel, but don't have CNC access for making the gate itself look quality... Still, I keep thinking I could make one on the cheap that would snap into the console over the existing boot even, and snap it out quickly when I became embarrassed of it
