But once you've already spent money on your cam and carbs.. an MSD is a nice toy too

I have a Digital 6 in my Lancer with all the goodies... high speed retard and launch control installed.

I recently installed one into my cammed corolla, made a world of difference down low in the rpm range!

slo-030 is right u do feel a diff down low and up high.. it also evens out your idle.. it will also allow u to open up your spark plug gap more. if u have carbs you will notice the diff as it will burn the fuel more and give u extra ponies and increase your mpg's ... i have msd 6a with ss coil and a gap of .50 on 77 810 datsun

Plus they are waaaaaay cheaper than a ignitor for a Toyota......
Plus u can go the cheap route and use a hei module

I have an MSD 6AL 2 with 2 step rev limit and launch control on my 2T-G with 45mm Webers. It has eliminated the miss at high revs with the standard toyota igniter and Bosch GT40 coil. I use it with a magnetic pick up from ra60/40 22r/20r motors. It hasn't missed a beat since.


I launch at 6500rpm and final rev limit to 8800rpm.

I recently also bought an MSD timing computer for a more linear timing advance.


The mechanical weights for timing advance was a pain driving the car on the street. I took them out and locked the distributor:


I also marked the crank pulley for reference on the amount of advance:


So far the car has been a lot smoother to drive and I am able to adjust the total advance with a timing retard option on the timing computer if the advance is too high.

MSD is a great product and I would recommend it to all, so simple to install and easy to use. You are able to retard the total timing by 4/3/2 or 1 degree if you like.

That timing computer is neat! I looked it up, and the pre-programmed advance curve should be pretty much perfect for any nostalgic

I bought my MSD and Coil, but my mechanic said he doesnt want to install it yet because my car is smoky.....does this have anything to do with that?!!

It may or may not. I think your mechanic just wants to fix the smoking problem first. If you install the new parts, it may fix the problem or it may just mask the problem. Better to find the true cause of the problem first, fix it, and then install new parts.
