CARFAX is useless for anything for me. all of my cars come back clean, even when i know they are not. except my truck because someone that did an inspection didn't understand that there is no 100xxx place on the odometer. he entered it wrong and now i have odometer fraud on my truck. i see it as a false sense of security. if an accident is not reported, carfax will not have it.

but i just had a 10 minute argument with one of my co workers. he says it's worth it if you are looking at a lot of vehicles. i tell him it's not worth it for me.

and i think it has to be a standard 17 digit VIN number which will put you into the 80's. i think..

Usually if an accident is not reported, it's because it's minor. A serious accident is almost impossible to not be reported.

You know Carfax makes their money from people paying for the service. When you have a subscription you are not allowed to run them for others. Carfax has been known to patrol message boards and cancel subscriptions over it. If you think the service is valuable enough to ask for, pay them for it. You don't work for free do you?

We all know how carfax works & this post isn't to discuss that. Once someone acknowledges they have one the rest will be handled via pm so their is no way for carfax to know who's doing what. i do know that I have purchased many 30 day subscriptions in the past & have shared them with anyone & everyone who needed them. I'm hoping someone will return the favor.
