The current Colt is a B-segment car and will be competing with the Fit, Yaris, Fiesta and Mazda2. The biggest engine is currently the 1.5 four that makes about 104hp, but will probably be punched up some for the US market. If I'm not mistaken, isn't this the first time the US has gotten an actual Colt, rather than a Lancer badged as a Colt?

I think I phrased that wrong. I mean we did get a car badged as a Colt, but it was actually a Lancer. Then we did get the Colt, but it was badged as the Mirage. I think this is the first Colt we're getting that's actually called Colt.

No, I got you clearly. Just wanted to know if that car was a Colt overseas.

Never mind, found out it was a Lancer in Oz, and a Mirage in Japan. :P

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, they put the Volvo grille on it! Will last year's fenders, bumper, and grille fit on?

Chop top, weld in the rear doors, and a couple big boxes of Ralliart Version-R parts, and we could have some fun.

Sweet. Mazda just unveiled the Mazda 2 (Demio) at the LA Auto Show today. Looks like a fun little car.

So, how similar are the Euro and JDM Colts under the skin?

does anyone else see Chevy Aveo in that car. I used to be a rabid Mitsu fan, owned a pair of Lancers, one heavily outfitted with RalliArt toys but I just cant seem to get my head around the new corporate design theme or the fact that they are good cars, they just are not exciting. good or bad, I want my cars to invoke passion and emotion. To me the new Mitsu's lack the ooh la la of the older ones.

Chevy Aveo, Suzuki SX4, Subaru Impreza, Mazda 3, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, and all the other cars that look more like shortened mini-vans. That's pretty much all they sell now. (Several other threads covering that topic). These wouldn't be particularly bad designs, if you could scan them into a computer, keep the length and width measurements, and print out the three dimensional version with a 25% reduction in vehicle height. Because they're all too tall and look just like what they are, shortened mini-vans!

The Ralliart Version-R is supposed to be an Evo/STi performance level in the compact car segment. And as with the Evo and STi, you can forgive a lot of ugliness if it goes like spit.

The shame of it is that with the Evo 9 (and previous Colt), Mitsubishi finally refined the curved wedge nose enough to remove all possible hints of the Pontiac Lemans, which was the biggest problem with the 2000 model year redesign. Now they have updated the Lancer and the Colt with that Volvo nose, and screwed up the whole thing.

Yes, but they weren't sold as Colt in Japan. That was his original point.

And the Colt came out here in the US around '70-71. :tu:

I can imagine that the Colt with it´s little engines might be too slow for your US-roads, it´s just fine for narrow and curvy european streets.

Here you have a nice curiculum vitae of the original Colt:

Wasn't the 87-92 version of the Colt the same as the Mirage?

Run a search for "Mirage Cyborg". Those were top finishers in Rally Japan alongside March R, Corolla, and Gemini FF. Not every Colt left a sour taste in the mouth of owners and drivers, certainly not the Cyborg.

Update

We're not getting the current Colt, but the replacement for the Colt, probably around 2012. The Japanese version will have a range of engines from 1.0 to 1.3. Mitsu is still considering their options for what will be in the the USDM car.

Yes it was a Mirage or Mirage Cyborg in Japan. Here it was sold as the Mitsubishi Mirage, Plymouth Colt, or Eagle Summit.

Heck no. I had one that I loved. It was a great car... :tu:

Always wanted to find one of the turbo variants...
