My dad in the 80s worked for Isuzu and had access to all the cars when I was just a little kid.The Impulse was my first encounter with a sports car.He would bring home multiple turbos and takes us for crazy rides,I remember a few donuts in the parking lots, lol.Hard to believe but in its day this was a high press car due to all the exagerating marketing on TV.Everywhere we went the car got a lot of love and thumbs ups.I will never forget one old lady even saying it looks like the car from Magnum PI,lol. One day my dad even dropped me off for school and the students recognized the car and went nuts. The Isuzu was ahead of its time with the styling outside and inside. The interior was like non other even to this day with its easy access pods.
During the years I have owned lots of rare sports cars, but the one that got me started was the Isuzu Impulse,my first true love.4 years ago I bought what appeared to be a clean 88 Turbo 5 speed but had rust hidden very well, which these cars do.A high end car collector offered me double what I paid so I sold it.A year later the same exact car but with 14k miles from the original owner surfaced. It was a true time capsule even had the original tires. The issue for me was I cant keep a car stock and it would of been a crime to mod such a pure example. So another wealthy collector made me an offer I couldnt refuse and she was off.So heres my final chance to get it right a clean car from Texas with no rust that I wont be scared to alter.

The 89 is the rarest year by far and the last.It has the color coded bumpers which make it look a little more modern. The 88s and 89 were more desirable to me because they have;more modern tail lights,Lotus suspension and badging, bigger rear spoiler, newer style hood(without the flip up brows)and headlights. The interior is slightly cleaner as well.

My last 2 I kept all stock esp since one had 14k miles on it.With this one I plan a few tasteful mods such as exhaust, lowering, and some staggered BBS.

Thanks Ill keep the pics and updates going.Im looking into lowering springs, cause like its cousin the Delorean it sits way to high esp in the front.Just changed the plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter which were all overdue.Next day off I will changed the coolant, oil and filter. The trans seal is leaking so deciding whether to fix it or just do the 5 speed swap.

You cant beat NOS.I scored some brand new goodness from an Isuzu dealer in CA.I got a new sunroof gasket to replace the shot out one,2 new factory key blanks, and a new oil cap(they are the pop in kind that wear out)Its good to see some parts are still out there.I will continue to restore this car piece by piece.

 You said parts. Honestly, I have not bought any actual parts since I finished my rebuild 2 years ago. But at the time I was getting stuff from St. Charles Isuzu, and Jerry Lemond on PlanetIsuzoo.com. I also bought a lot of stuff on RockAuto. I think St. Charles has since stopped with Isuzu support all together. What are you looking for?

Off the top of my head, I don't. Yeah, that's going to be quite a big job.

I've only seen one JR in the yard ever. I took a bunch from it, including a really nice headliner. I don't know why I took it, because it's blue, and my interior is grey. I think I was just taking anything off that car that was nice.

Great news on those rare interior pieces that I needed. My persistence paid off after tracking a lot of Isuzu dealers I got all the little things I needed in NOS.I was even lucky to score a brand new turbo leather shift knob for my conversion.Stay tuned I have a lot more planed.
