In researching another project, I picked up a book on the history of Setagaya-ku (世田谷区) in Tokyo's West. Many photographs of period cars among the street cars, developments and train lines. A great slice in time, with many of these buildings still standing. Here's some highlights...


White-walled Prince, and something else (Showa 36).


Crown ute, wagon and Corolla (Showa 43).


A couple of Prince, with a Subaru 360 thinking it can perhaps squeeze through the gaps (Showa 30).


Crown, Datsun wagon, another early Crown I think, and the tram to Shibuya (Showa 43).


Subaru 360 (Showa 36).


Prince, a Renault (?), big Mitsubishi, and a Corolla perhaps? (Showa 43).


Taxis - Prince perhaps? (Showa 30).


Air-cooled taxi. No idea what it is though (Showa 36).


New family, new Bellet (Showa 30).


Subaru 360 sneaks past Shibuya bound street-car (Showa 42).


Great looking truck of some sort (Showa 40).

And, clearly off topic, but those tram shots remind me of Kochi! A couple of Kei trucks in the background, at least!

In English, or similar anyway; 'Showa 30, and Forty Years of Setagaya-ku'. ISBN978-4-7612-6595-3. It contains not just cars of course, but a pile of trains, street-cars, buildings, maps and history.

A great place to live! Komazawa, Shimokitazawa, Futago-Tamagawa, to bordering on Shibuya - a perfect slice of Tokyo life... If he wants to sell his Box RB26 Skyline, tell him to give me a call?
