Actually this series first came out a few months ago. I got mine back in April. It's a six car revival set of the first six Tomica produced back in 1970. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Tomica. I only picked up the Toyota that are in the set, although I did just buy a complete set to send off to a friend in Germany.

BTW, this is Volume 1. Volume 2 was just released in Japan and is the same set of cars but in different colors. I think there is also a Vol 3 due in a few months.

Oh ok...I stand corrected. Thanks!

I'm still excited nonetheless! hehehe

looks great- i tossed up whether to get the slick 50 one or not, but decided not to. 7 cabinets already full in this house with another 30+ 1:18's still in their boxes means my selection is a little more strict.

Here's a 1/18 Datsun C130 Laurel I bought on yahoo.jp and it appears to be a dealer sold promotional desk toy.

Image

Its roof lifts off and I'm not sure if it was intended as an ash tray or cigarette case but odly enough underneath there is also a clockwork chime/music box

I'm not quite at your level yet! I've only bought the ones that interested me and thought that looked the best.

They were a promotional product, and yes it was to hold cigarettes. there was a music chime as well.

i have the Zed, the blue bird and the cedric. can't find the Zed but just grabbed the bluebird base and cedric.

Great info I never knew they made so many types, I have also wondered a while if the chimes were popular Japanese classical tunes and what they were.

The magazine didn't make them, Aoshima did.
And by now they are up to Part 3 - http://www.aoshima-bk.co.jp/scripts/eng ... spx?id=422
They also have an ABUNAI-DEKA COLLECTION

These are great collectibles. Look hard enough and you can find one of almost any (Japanese) car made. I have a bunch of Toyota ones, but none of them come with music boxes
