I've noticed that Honda guys (mostly younger folks) have quite the hard on for roof racks as of late. I've yet to see a bike, board, skis, or other equipment on them.

Anyone care to help a brotha out as to what's up with this? Just a fad that benefits Yakima?

I just chalk that up to them not being on their way to ride/ski when I see them... :P

Taco, I'm hearing you here- I don't get it myself, but each to their own.

For a wihle it was cool here coz' it implied you surfed and that was okay, but then everyone got them....

I think it started with the VW guys more than anything. It's a trendy accessory. I relate it to the roof racks on old Beetles. However, I have seen people actually use them- there were a few at a local VW gathering a month ago with bikes strapped to the top (Fixed gears, of course, because they had to be hellatrendy), and I did even see people take the bikes down and ride around on them. That being said, I have a friend with an E30 BMW that he loves as a beater, and he put a Thule rack on it as well... and hasn't put a damn thing on it. Just because he thought it looked sweet. So I don't really know. I guess it's a personal thing. Some of them look alright, I'd rather go without it because I don't have shit to put on my roof and like getting better gas mileage.

I dont like them personally. Honestly, I am also torn on the sunroof wind deflector on mine. I think the car looks better without it, but since my car came with it as a factory accessory (which is getting harder to find)..plus it does reduce wind noise which is nice, so I am thinking of keeping it on.

I heard someone a while ago say something regarding VW guys, like you said, StationWagonGuy. Funny thing is, I went to In n Out last night, and there was a VW meetup. Roof racks!

I always find it funny when I see a guy with a roof rack, and he's incredibly overweight. Also, guys with stripped out cars that look like they could hold off on the extra patties.

That sort of common sense has no place in the import tuner world.

Such logical thinking will not go unpunished!

Put it on a newer model, clean Integra or Civic, and wear a flat brimmed hat at a cocky angle, and BAM! Southern California.

Oh yeah, don't use it.

I use mine for hauling bikes and have even hauled a dresser haha. Now that winter is coming and I do not ride I took it off. Buying them just to look cool is plain stupid but it's their money so whatever.

Got my rack an basket as I got damned sick of carring wheels an tires in my back seat.

plus comes in handy for hauling large things as its a small car.

Oh and so people aren't going to try and flip an talk isht about the hood being bare metal, I am doing body work on it and it had bondo all over the hood, so now its straightish and getting painted soon.
