Hey I finally decided to join this site. I've always been into vintage Japanese cars and especially ae86's. I just bought my first one a few months ago and have been struggling to keep it running HAH! I have little mechanical experience with actually working on cars but I'm learning! I have already bought a TOM's racing wheel for it and SSR Mk2 are coming soon :D

Here's the 86. its an sr5

Don't be fooled its not as clean as it looks...

I plan on getting

SSR MKii in 13x8.5 -13/13x8 -13
Shortened strut coilovers w/8k and 6k swift springs

Those are my main objectives right now haha.

Oh and I have a TOMS steering wheel! I've always wanted one so it was the first purchase haha.

If I keep this one, I may do a carbed 4ag with solex/mikuni sidedrafts. but we'll see...

Welcome to JNC. That interior looks really clean so you're already miles ahead of most ae86 owners :).

haha yes this is true. I don't know what to do though. I'm only 19, don't have much experience, and the the thought of fixing all that rust is quite a daunting task to me. I just love vintage cars too much and especially 86's too much to give up though.

You'll need to cut out the area around the rust hole and put new metal in or get someone to do it for you... because of the location you're looking at removing the rear glass as well. It's not easy but it's the only way.

Look at gypsy's thread for metalworking tips.

Good God! that is some intense restoration work! I love seeing people who save these cars :D

The thing that I am most worried about, is, If I do cut out that metal, am I going to have to have a donor car to have the metal cut out of?? I really hope not b/c that might make me sell it right away haha. ae86' are rare enough to come by in NC, let alone for a college student who doesn't have enough for 2.... :(
