I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the pulsar nx/exa convertible.
Nissan Japan sent 100 carby exas to ASC in america, where they undertook the conversion, they shipped them back to japan, then chose the 100 lucky owners via ballot.
I've owned two of them, the first was a Jap import in New Zealand that I brought with me to Australia, the second I bought as a complianced private Jap Import here in Australia. I sold both of them to an enthusiast I know here in Brisbane.
Name: Nissan N12 Pulsar NX EXA Convertible
Year range: 1985
Quantity: 100 units
Features: Convertible, red duco, red pulsar nx interior, E15S motor, power steering, special badging, twin interior vanity mirrors.
Info: It was designed to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Nissan Cherry dealerships. It was launched in May, 1985, and just 100 vehicles were made available for the whole of Japan. The vehicle sports numerous special accessories, including a soft top made from a special insulating material to keep out the rain and heat, and a rear window made from organic glass to ensure high visibility. Nissan sent the cars over to california to be converted. It is believed that ASC (American Special Cars -
http://www.ascglobal.com/) did the conversion. They have done all of Nissan's other special convertibles and have been doing conversions since the 60's. Unfortunately they won't reply to my emails requesting more info.
Interesting facts: Nissan has one in their historical museum.
Because there were so few of these cars available, Nissan decided that the best way to decide who would reveive the honour of owning one was to make it so that in order to buy one of these new, you had to enter your name in a draw, if your name was pulled then there would be a car available for you to buy.
I have scoured the internet for facts, information and photos.
The best way to do this I have found is to use the Japanese name of the car and search on
www.google.jp.
The Japanese name is: パルサー エクサ コンバーチブル

Registry: These are the details of any of the 100 convertibles that can be located. It's in chassis number order where possible.
