Hi all!!

Im going traveling to NZ with my mate from the end of November this year for 12 months! We are both petrolheads from the UK and both loving Old J-Tin (me with my KE70 and Z31 and him Just "unfortunately" selling his Datsun 120Y to fund the trip)

We were wondering if any of you guys can tell us some cool places to go for some old skool cool or motorsport events over there during the year!?
What shouldnt we miss? Who should we go and see?

Would be really cool if we could meet up with any of you locals to check out your rides and local meets too

We will be staying at my friends place in Nelson over the Christmas and new year period and then hopefully buying a campervan to travel about in! Also we will be looking for some occational work to keep funds going while over there as we have a 12 month working Visa!

In the 12 months we want to cover from the top of North Island right down to the bottom of South Island so there is a high chance we will be passing many of u locals at some point!!

Any ideas or advice would be fantastic and if anyone wants to meet up just let me know!!

I don't live in NZ, but can tell you 2 places I wouldn't miss. Southward Car Museum near Wellington. Link

And if you are into bikes, the Britten Museum in Christchurch. I can't find a link for it. Here is the link to the Britten site. Britten If you want to go I can try and dig up the address, or maybe someone will chime in with more info. It's a very small Museum run by John Britten's employee's after his death.

Check out the race programmes for the main tracks... some fantastic events - the Whittikers at Manfield is a must - classic race meeting. Also the Scope Classic, the Silver Ferm classic rally, Otago classic rally, etc etc... heaps of stuff (just a matter of working out where you need to be and when!!).

Maybe join the oldschool.co.nz forum - ask what's coming up around the country.

Yep Join Oldschool.co.nz. Heaps of good dudes on there, will take you a bit to get used to our style but no doubt you'll have fun.

There is a Japanese Classic car meet in Auckland early January you should come to. I'm driving either my 240z or kb310 Sunny up from Christchurch so could have a seat spare if you are lucky.

Don't forget WRC Rally New Zealand!

Depends where you want to be during which period of time. The Southern Festival of Speed takes place over 4 tracks from Ruapuna in CHCH, Levels in Timaru, Street Circuit in Dunedin (might not be on the calender just yet again this year) and at Teretonga in Invercargill.

Usually some epic cars to be seen at such events.

The meet Rob is talking about is getting bigger and bigger every year, there's also the 4 and Rotary Nationals, that would be hilarious for someone from the UK to see the generic modification stamp on those vehicles.

Plenty to see. I'll try get you some dates for the FOS and the other events I mentioned and you can try figure out what you want to do or where you want to be, from there.

I don't think either of my Skylines will be ready by then but when you're down in Invercargill you're welcome to come say hello and check out the C110 in the garage and I can take you out to where the Prince sits, if you're interested.

Which reminds me. Wreckers yards. You'll probably come across a good few. Preston St in Invercargill is a good one, unfortunately unable to wander around it freely, but there's also the world famous Horopito Wreckers, also known as "Smash Palace"

Of course, there's the NZV8 series as well, that's in January IIRC, they get a bit tedious IMO but being you're from a distance away you might want to attend at least one round;

Obviously most the racing and shows take place over the summer months but there's usually something on somewhere. Depends how you want to do your trip really!

Takes place in chch, cruise to a place called Akaroa....this year there is over 30 Datsun's confirmed for the cruise, with a month away (mid October).....and it gets bigger every year, so next year it should be great for you to check out!

Southward Car museum is a very cool place to check out......I was there just last weekend! loved it!
