I officially hate this show. Just watched them drop a bunch of scrap steel on a MK2 Supra for no reason whatsoever...

I've been meaning to watch the show since the idea sounded like a game show version of Junkyard Wars or Monster Garage, both of which I liked. I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but if they are destroying Supras maybe I'll just skip it.

Did you see the premier of Crash Course on ABC last Wednesday?

The contestants drive what looks like old police cruisers or taxi cabs, with roll cages. Most of the obstacles they crashed into and blew up looked like GM products, until they got to the end, where there were Japanese cars from the companies that used to be GM Affiliates. I watched them maul the crap out of a car that I have been desperately searching for a floor pan section out of. They folded that car with the cruisers.

I haven't seen the show, but it sounds like a spin-off idea from an old comedy sketch under the same title, (Catch It and You Keep It), that was on the Nation Lampoon "Radio Dinner" album.

Unless stupid people are being pummled by a year's supply of dog food, loaded down luggage, cutlery and dream houses - complete with wall-to-wall carpeting and real brick fireplaces - all thrown off the 10th floor of a building, I can't imagine that this new show could be entertaining - let alone funny.

Hate to hear about them wrecking decent cars for no reason. That sucks.

It's like I tuned in to watch the season finale of "Burn Notice", to watch them drive what is literally my dream car (well, dream mass-produced car), a gorgeous, red, '60 Buick LeSabre Convertible, off a parking garage roof and watch it smash into the ground.

I shut the TV off and walked away after that. I'm still horrified.

Edit- I was inspired to google about the Buick. Well, I feel mildly better, the main car is unharmed and what went over the building was an engineless shell that was originally a 4-door, slathered in bondo with the doors welded shut and door handles moved backwards to look like a two door and a convertible top stretched over what remained of the original roof.

Anyhow, yeah, I hate cars getting destroyed on TV shows. Or in real life, really.

In high school, I drove a bug.

At high school, they would make us sit through these movies to brain wash us of the perils of drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, whatever they didn;t want us to do. Invariably, every single one of these low budget films included the smashing of a VW Beetle.

I never understood how failing to uphold the morals and mores of the older generation invariably resulted in the destruction of a VW Beetle.

And every day I left that class needing a good, stiff drink.
