It's 1972, and you're going to buy a new car. What are you going to buy? It has to be officially imported to your country, so no gray imports, and no used cars. So what's it going to be?

1972 is the start of the "grey years" for cars in the states, the "grey market" came later. :P

For me it would be a Ferrari Daytona.

1972....

1972 Plymouth Road Runner/GTX, 440 4-speed

1972 Toyota Celica GT

1972 Dodge Monaco 2-door, 3-on-the-tree 440, and swap it to a 4-speed

1972 Ford Ranchero GT, 429 4-speed

1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser (with a 4-speed)

1972 Dodge Demon, 340 4-speed

1972 Toyota Carina

1972 Toyota Corolla SR-5

1972 Dodge D-100, /6 4-speed

1972 BMW 2002

1972 is an in between year for me, I can think of a lot more '71s I'd rather have.

That's why I picked 1972. It makes it more of a challenge. Also, I said "a car", not "a car collection."

Fine, be that way, lol.

Right now, a 1972 Celica GT. Because I'll buy a '70 something else used.

I guess I should answer my own question. For the longest time, I probably would have gone with an AMC Javelin AMX with 401, 4-speed and stripes. Gotta have the stripes.

But now it has to be the Toyota Crown coupe in green.

You might have broken the rules. 8)

According the the owner of a local Toyota dealer (who's been in business since '68), the Kujira Crown was never "officially" sold in the US. A few dealers specially ordered a few of them but they weren't intended for the US market, and were not sold at very many dealers. according to him, the MS55 wast the last official US-market Crown.

Any corroboration?

Seeing as australia got nothing special from Japan that year, it would have to be one of the locals...

HQ GTS 350 Monaro coupe or, in terms of collectivity and $$$$$$$$$ a Ford Falcon XY GT Phase III

You may be right, but Toyotareference.com not only shows it being imported in 1971/2, but even has a brochure for it. But hey, if I'm wrong, I'll take the Javelin.

Actually, now that I think about it, was the Datsun 610 hardtop available in the US in '72?

Yup. 8)

In fact, Bob Sharp's 610 race car is a '72.
