Only one of these cars has a "White with red stripe paint scheme", big prizes for the first person to guess which one.

They're ALL dope. That ZX, IIRC, has skyline taillights too and it looks fantastic.

Slightly off-topic, but the ZX belongs to my housemate.

The SA22C is a mate's and the Celica belongs to yours truly.

Is this a trick question?

Do one of the cars have invisible red stripes?

Why is the Celica black instead of white? Or is it?

I am too scared to answer because I don't want to be wrong and look foolish...

Damn, Fellah. You're asking too many questions. Have you learned nothing from this thread ?

tristin vanished but he made it back. Just.
You may not be so lucky.

The answer to 3 of your questions is maybe, the 4th answer is 12. I think.

Stationwagonguy ?

Yes, my bad, I meant to mention that and it slipped my mind. I stole the picture off your bookface page.

Tyler (Sven7) linked me to these pictures being shared by Riverside (I honestly don't know who runs the Riverside FB page, they're a car club out of New Zealand as far as I can tell). He inquired about the stripe, and these were some of the comments:

Quote:
It's just a stylised racing stripe. Called '暴走ライン'. Google that term and you'll see them on all kinds of cars.

Quote:
ぶっちぎりライン
Quite translate said this was "Beat Line"
Quote:
暴走ライン懐かしい‼︎
And this translated as "Nostalgic Runaway Line"

OK..... Maybe we are doing this all wrong.
How about we come up with a name for this racing stripe mystery and see if the Internet will correct us ?
If nobody says we're wrong then surely we are right ? Yes ? No ?

I'm gonna say it's a " Confusing Line" which thanks to the power of the forum and general apathy will become a "Confucius Line" and then everyone can start debating how a striped, slammed Kenmeri on Yayoi's made it back to China in 500BC.

If I'm being silly please tell me....

And before anyone jumps on my last post....

Yes, I know those aren't Sakura's but if they were that car would be even more Confucius than it is now.

Jeez, this is hard work.

DMK... I wish I could come up with the equally entertaining response that deserves, haha.

I like the idea though. Maybe if it's something really dumb someone will come along and go, "NO! NO! THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S CALLED AT ALL, IT'S THE ________ LINE!"

Now you're just being silly. What are we calling it now, a Scandinavian Line ? Funny that the guy with the Volvo stationwagon has a name that is almost "Nissan" as well as the fabled stripe.

Or maybe it's only funny if you've had a couple of beers, which I have.

Cheers.

I've just posted the picture of the purple Yonmeri on my facebook page and asked the whole of Japan what the stripe is called.

I can do no more.

Watch this space....

*edit* Not a Skyline. A Laurel. Silly me.

Japan has spoken. Well, a little bit of Japan, anyhow.

"Knuckle line. It stands for a horizontal sea level guide for a military ship, but seems almost vertical lol "

How did it end up on cars ? I asked.

"Not really sure but I guess it might make us feel like a Samurai soldiers"

Ok, none the wiser then ! I think we may have to accept that we will never know. At the risk of upsetting you, maybe you need to draw a (knuckle) line under your quest.

Maybe you should come up with another mysterious JDM ambiguity for us to ponder ?

What d'ya reckon ?

^Yonmeri sedan with stripe. Oddly, I own the E21 320i kit pictured, gifted by Sven7.

DMK, I appreciate your continued efforts to find The Truth. Someone out there knows why, it just takes some digging...

I still can't believe after all this time, you're the only person who shows any interest in understanding this beyond myself.

Thank you for being a friend.
