Anyone know what year this is? Never seen a Corona quite like that...

It's a 1st-gen Corona Mark II, made from 1968-71. One of those stretch jobs like the 510 and C30 Laurel. But yeah, I haven't quite seen one like that either. Hotness!

So it's a different chassis than the regular shovel-nose Corona but made around the same time?

I think same chassis but different body. Not sure though.
Kinda like a Toyota Corolla liftback, sedan and wagon (OK, bad example).

That yellow one is a 1969 MarkII GSS. I just love the shape of that!

The Mark II's wheelbase is about 3.5 inches longer than the Corona's. Probably the same basic design though.

Just realized that's not a J-spec Bluebird, it's a US-spec Datsun 510 wagon!!! Wonder how it ended up in Japan? :P

Unfortunately, I think this happens quite a lot. Japanese collectors come to the US to buy rust-free California cars and ship them back to Japan, where we will never see them again. With LHD having that cool factor and the strong yen to dollar exchange rate, I think this will only increase. :(

Or did you mean this particular one?

Yeah, kinda... :P

I know for awhile now guys from Japan have been buying up 2dr sedans to ship back home, as they are quite rare there.

We need an exchange program set up. You send me your Bluebird Coupe, I send you my 510 2dr.

In my experience, it has very little to do with "Japanese collectors"........

Broadly speaking, LHD export-spec Japanese cars that have been re-imported to Japan ( often by opportunistic used car dealers ) are a lot less popular than their original RHD domestic market counterparts. They tend to change hands for less money, and often become the victims of less tasteful mods and quickly passing fads.

I know a Japanese dealer who tried a few, and ended up making next to nothing out of them. Lots of sniffers, but not many people willing to take the plunge.

I'd say it's a trend that's on the decline, if anything.
