Well $10k in Oz is the right sort of money for DR30, with $15k buying you a pretty exceptional car.

the DR30 would most definitely be right up your alley then. Bulletproof engines with the potential to make huge amounts of power, healthy aftermarket support (impressive considering the engines and cars are now up to 30 years old), and you can still buy brand new items from Nissan if you were so inclined. Perhaps not the most popular car around but they have uniqueness and 'wow' factor.

Possibly the AE86 as well, but the D1 crowd and "takumi tax" makes them a little less affordable than they should honestly be.

How about rotary power? Series 1-3 RX-7s continue to climb in value. The Series 4-5s are at the point where they won't get any cheaper either.

For some specifics... 145+ whp, 1/4 mile in 15.7 @ 89mph(being driven poorly), 30+ mpg - highway. All from 1606 cc of Toyotas twin cam 4AGE.


Btw... I cut my teeth on older muscle and pony cars, having owned a 68 GTO, 2 Shelbys(one GT-350H, and a GT-500), and a 70 428 SCJ Mach 1. I love the corolla because it can be made to handle VERY well, and go like stink doesn't require anything more than a meticulous build. The Corolla can also carry TONS.... like a spare set of tires, and tools, and jack and jackstands to and from the track... you don't have to have a trailer!!!!!
