So I bought a car form Cali and had it shipped to me. The title is clear, but the previous owner never re titled it in his name. So now the Massachusetts RMV will not honor the Cali title. Is there anyway to get a duplicate from Cali as the new owner? I have the improperly filled out title and the previous registration. A little frustrated as I would like to register and drive this thing.

Did they sign the title their name wasn't on?

I had an issue with this in Michigan where I had a (completely worthless) BMW I was trying to get rid of, but the person I bought it from had signed the title... which didn't have their name on it. In the end, the dude I sold it to (for basically scrap) had to go to the titled owner's house, pay him to go to a DMV with him and get a duplicate title made and filled out.

If he simply didn't sign the title, at least here, you could *try* to forge their signature and date it and make a bill of sale, take it to the DMV and just switch ownership.

I wish it was that easy. They filled out the new owner section when they bought it from the previous owner, but then never actually registered it. So I cant fill in the proper area as its already filled in.

Try to contact the origional owner (maybe by mail) and see if they can get a duplicate title, or bill of sale to your name. It shouldn't cost anything. Explain the your situation clearly.... Good luck
