There are a lot more details to add, but I got a little burnt out from the head and valve cover :oops:

...off for the intake and exhaust before finishing the rest of the details up.

Rockhampton (qld) has a really big model building following, but not many into the jap stuff so its refreshing to see.

Hey guys,
My names Chris, im new to all this model building. I stumbled upon this site quite by accident and was so interested i ended up reading the whole thread then had to go out and buy a model for myself! I chose a tamiya second gen rx-7. I just got around to doing the motor, which I think turned out pretty well. I want to get some detail parts like plug wires and maybe some weathering going on. Let me know what you all think!

Just a small update. The SR now has a Greddy/Trust lower oil pan, intake and a T28 turbo:

Who makes that body? The look of it screams Fujimi, but the gray chassis tells me Tamiya.

Its the latest Fujimi Type X kit Ken. This one comes with a black chassis, but Fujimi's black plastic is hard and brittle. I'm using a gray chassis from a different version S13 because the gray plastic is a little softer and easier to shape...I have to do a lot of reworking of the front wheelwells to get the profile correct. I also have to get rid if the molded in tranny as well since they molded an auto, and I need a 5 speed.

I picked up a few kits nice and cheap while I was in Japan last year and yesterday I got bored so I pulled one out and gave it a crack

Paid 504 Yen for it, and yesterday I saw the exact same kit here in Australia for $25! five times the price!!

Anyway, these are very very basic kits and seeing as I haven't built a model in well over 12 years I'm a very very basic builder.
Kept the body in the moulded colour which thankfully was consistent, just in need of a polish (what would you use for that anyway)

The result:

Just need to buy some paints for the tail lights and sidemarkers then its done. The bumpers look a bit shabby painted but considering I haven't done this for years I thought it wasn't a bad effort for an afternoon's work.

Being too much of a collector and not enough of a builder, I've been hoarding old Datsun kits.

Although the quality isn't top notch, I have most of the "Nostalgic Hero" models from Doyusha, I think they were released in the late 80s or early 90s. Quite awhile back I got the Datsun 1200 model from this series on ebay, and ever since I've been keeping an eye on HLJ to see if they ever get any in stock. Well, two weeks ago it happened. They finally moved some of the "Nostalgic Hero" models from the "discontinued" section to the "backordered/out of stock" section. :mrgreen:

So, for grins I ordered 3 of the 1200 Coupe models, and two of the B210 coupe models. :tu:

The B210 models showed up today, so hopefully the 1200 models will be here soon.

john, i know the feeling. ive been doing the same with toyota and nissan/datsun kits...lols
those doyusha kits are usually out of stock, but can be found on ebay. a bit more expensive though.

A lot more expensive. :shock:

I got the B210s for $12 each and the 1200s for $17 each. Last I looked on ebay the B210 was $30 and the 1200 was $35. And they still have to be shipped from Japan, so... :mrgreen:

I think most of those were set up to use an electric motor under the floor? That's probably why the interior pan is so shallow and the seats way too simplified. That was the scourge of '80s Japanese models.
