Nearly finished this one, just have to slap together the interior and chrome foil the windscreen surround, B pillar vents, door handles and gutter trim. So this is as far as I'm at as I'm out of satin black and chrome foil, haha.

I like the truck, great stance with the Aoshima strech wall tires. What kit is the truck?

I got that kit too. I like the style you built it in. I saw this first posted on the spc message forum.

Sweet! That truck looks superb! I started doing a Datsun 720 but haven't yet got round to finishing it. Seeing this makes me want to bust it out and get it done! Where did you get the wheels and tyres from?

Thanks guys!

Wheels and tires are Aoshima Kai Parts Longchamp XR4, I got them from hobbyworld ages ago, but hlj has the current kai parts stretchwall range and hiroboy has some also. I think the Longchamps may be out of production. I cut away a lot of the rear fenders (they had weird spats moulded on) but otherwise the wheels fitted with no modification at all!
The kit is the Aoshima RN30 Hilux short body.

Ed, I think I remember the 720 from AF ages ago, had a lot of potential. Hilux kit has the exact same chassis and interior tub, a couple of sprues have Datsun 720 written on them. Gee they're crude kits in some ways, though the separate suspension parts are nice touch.

The 720 kit had the same rear arches. I'll definately have to dig it out of it's box and get it finished! Haven't built anything for a very long time. Too busy on my 1:1 construction kits

I saw the RN30 Hilux kit in my local model shop a couple of days ago... $30 NZ, and yes, I considered it...

That Hilux is great! Never yet managed to acquire anything like that, did try for a Dodge D50 recently and I’ve seen American kits of the 620 go for more than I want to spend (as little as possible!).

As it looks like one or two of you are on SPC this will be nothing new, but I’m still chuffed that I actually managed to finish one!

Image

It’s a 1981 R30 Skyline, a 2000GT-E-S coupe (I also have an unbuilt saloon version). This one is by Tamiya and went together nicely, I also have ones by Fujimi and Otaki to do at some point.

Image

Wheels are Work Equips by Fujimi I think, tyres a bit chunky but I prefer that to stretched.

Not a perfect build, and I may have been lazy with one or two of the details, but overall I was very pleased with how it came out. Mod’s were limited to lowering, a touch of camber and cutting out the side glass to emphasise its pillarless looks, other than the wheels of course.

I bought a lot of other kits over the summer and autumn. I love this one in particular:

This Celica XX came with three sets of wheels:

I think there have been even more wheel sets and kits added since these pic’s:

No kidding!!! My wife just walked up and saw me gawking at those photos--I said to her "I have to do a model car again soon!!!"

Where did you buy the kits/wheels? Amazing work overall. My shelf is screaming for one (or five)

You might try HobbyLink Japan www.hlj.com . Try looking for models called Crestas.

Thanks for the kind words - I get most of my kits/wheel sets from HLJ (links in Kingtoy's reply)

gamby, those are amazing! I especially love the bosozoku police cruiser.

Amazing work, kingtoy. I thought it was a super-detailed 1/43 model at first!
