    Kit cars

I was thinking today after seeing someone's concept rendering of a Classic Datsun/Nissan. The general consensus was 'cool, but I don't know that I'd build mine like that'. I somewhat feel the same way - somethung that uncommon (especially stateside) should be stock or have minor mods. BUT. What if you could get a reproduction of a.given model? They already make repro's of iconic U'S. cars, why can't someine do he same with J-tin? Factory 5 does Shelby's and some other early hotrods, YearOne is making 1G Camaro/Firebirds, Mustangs and I believe E-Body Mopars and yet another is building tri-5 Chevy's. I, personally, would buy a reproduction 2000GT, KPGC10 Skyline GT-R or any number of classics. I want our turn, dammit.

I have mixed feelings about kit cars. People tend to buy the cobra's, Porsche 356's and other cars that are extremely rare and expensive so that is the only way they will ever have one. While an actual GTR is extremely rare, most of the 2000gt's and GTRs clones are about the same price as what a kit car would cost or even less. I guess there are benefits of brand new car with AC that has style.

That's where I was going with it. Not only would there be less worry about putting an authentic(stock or period-correct) engine in, but there shouldn't be any importing issues being a kit vehicle.

It might be cool as long as it isn't put on a chevy s10 frame like most kit cars. I could see it working if it was like the factory 5 frames that are a tube frame with full custom suspention and fiberglass body. It would make it a super fun track car that is extremely stiff and light but vintage and good looking. for a street car why not get the real thing. It's not like most kit cars that the originals didn't come with ac and were 60+ years old. These are cars from the 70's that are still modern enough and comfortable.

I would love to see a GC10 Skyline coupe kit car. :tu:

But I think they'd have to get a lot more valuable/rare before anyone invests the money in replicating it...

If there was a 2000gt kit, I would be all over that.

That one probably makes the most financial sense. Build it on a 280Z donor.

The muscle cars YearOne is reproducing need no donor car - they're complete unit-bodies. I'd rathee see them produced like that. Unless, like the Cobra and other Shelby's, they are full-frame vehicles.

Roadster Garage in Japan will sell you a 2000GT kit for an S30 or, if you want a convertible, a Eunos Roadster/MX5/Miata based kit.
