    Advice please - 4G93 + 5-speed gearbox.

There's a lot of info on using in-line 5-speed boxes with "Gen. 1" & "Gen. 2" 4G63s in rwd Lancers / Starions etc...

My application is a little different...
    I have a 4G93 from a "Gen. 2" 1996/97 4wd GSR (CM5A) that I'm going to install in a box Lancer
and I'd like to avoid using an adapter plate if possible.

Was the "Gen 2" 4G93 from the 1996 GSR (CM5A) ever used "in-line" (rwd) in any Mitsubishi model?
If not, can you suggest any "in-line" 5-speed that can bolt to the 4G93?

Any advice and suggestions on the build will really be appreciated. Thanks.

I know any narrow block rwd trans (KM 119 or 132) will bolt to a 4G92 MIVEC. Should be the same for a 93?

I don't see any mention on wikipedia, so I will ask, is it a narrow block or wide block.
If the lower bellhousing bolts are 12.75" appart then you have a "narrow block" and if they are 13.75" apart you have a "wideblock".

I'm not sure. I don't have much info on these model gearboxes.

I know "narrow block" and "wide block" refers to the Gen 1 and Gen 2 4G63/64 blocks.
I didn't know that other engines were similar.

What are the actual measurements for the 4G93 "narrrow" and "wide" blocks?

I'm not sure if this will help you specifically, but this website has a vast amount of information on rwd "Sirius" (4GXX) engine applications and transmission configurations, etc...

Project Zero is a good place to start. As for the 4G9x motors they are all the same block within each generation except for they are progressively taller starting with the 4G92. All of the trans from those models are interchangeable. The heads swap as well with a few exceptions ( example: 97-98 4G93 doesn't have oil squirter ports for self adjusting lifters found on 99+ engines ).

Best bet would be a 4G64 though. Cheap and easy to find. DOHC can be found easily too. And best of all, its been done before by project zero.

Depends on where you live though, a 4g63 may not be as easily obtainable in some countries vs the other motors like the 4g93.

I also wouldn't think the wide block attribute would apply to these motors since they are coming out of a fwd based car in which case and not a rwd car where you might have a wideblock variant.

Correct, there are NO rwd variants for the 4G9x family of engines. Therefore the Wide Vs Narrow arguement is moot. This being said there may be other Mitsu transmissions that might work. The rwd swap has been done on this engine but it is much simlper to go for a 4G6x engine instead. As I understand there is no direct bolt up and some fabrication is required. Do a google search on 4G93 rwd...

Actually the 4G63 is certainly more available outside the USA. There have been variants in both front and rear wheel drive since the early '80s ( the Starion debuted in the US with the 4G54 as opposed to all other markets that recieved the 4G63 ).

I said some countries, not all, as not every country had the same line of cars as each other, but in the case of the Starion, both Europe and the GSR model in Japan were fitted with the 4g54. Different market, different availability ya know.

Getting back on track... the "4G93-into-KE20" swap used a KM132 gearbox from a GJ (Narrow) Sigma.

    Link--> 4g93t In To Ke20.

This may be the answer to my problem...
However that 4G93 has the turbo on the right side of the engine (looking forward to the timing gear cover.)
My turbo is on the left side of the engine (looking forward to the timing gear cover.)

Is there any change in bell-housing pattern (on the block) from 1st-to-2nd generation 4G93 engines?

Accurate KM132 bolt-pattern dimensions or alternative gearbox suggestions will be welcomed.

    Thanks
