New guy with TE72 sez hi

Long time lurker... just joined today!

Bought a 1980 TE72 yesterday. Mostly stock 2dr, 3TC auto with headers + exhaust, wheels. Needs a few things.

Only one pic at the moment, as I was replacing the old starter motor.

Can't wait to get it set up nicely with a 5 speed, shocks/springs, lip, all that stuff, nice and low...

    My first Toyota!

    Nice find.

The previous owner said the same thing!

Might save me the trouble of doing a 4AGE swap... just do a 5sp swap instead.

3T is a great motor bro. Just gotta get them more fuel and more cam. You'll be surprised of how well they run with just a little tuning.

+1. The 3TC is plenty of motor and is very easy to work on, once you get rid of all the extra crap that comes with it. Get a bigger carb and cam and open up the exhaust and the car will be doing really well.

    Sweet.

I've seen a lot of videos of 600+HP 3TC's for drag, but I'm looking for a good, balanced, N/A motor for road racing (think Targa Newfoundland).

Cleaned it up a bit today:

    A quick question... 5sp conversions = cheap???

Gotta get rid of some funky idle. Dunno what it is, as this is my first carb'ed car.

Thanks as always, guys. This is probably the most mentally-balanced car site on the web!

Not sure if you're joking or not, but lurker means someone who doesn't register or post on a forum, but reads it often. :-)

I'm pretty sure he's referring to those middle aged men 'cruising' around schools

Yeah, def. gotta get some chrome bumpers when I can! The rear bumper is falling apart, so I'm gonna try and fix it a bit, then replace them when I have the money.
