We have so many talented artists in the JNC forums, we thought this would make a cool contest. Draw your modern interpretation of the Subaru 360, something you could actually see going into production.
The Subaru 360 was an iconic Japanese car. It was the first big automotive hit and got Japanese citizens on the road. It was cheap, utilitarian and funky post-war transport, like what the Beetle was for Germany, the Mini was for England, and the Fiat 500 was for Italy. Every classic car museum in Japan has one, and you can still see them driving on the streets occasionally.
VW came out with a new Beetle, Mini has a new Mini, and Fiat has a new 500. It's time to resurrect the new 360!
Deadline extended to 9/30/2009
Notable design cues
- rear-engine layout
- different colored roof
- the hot version "Young SS" had a double bubble roof for a surfboard, along with a racing stripe across the hood (see last pic) and on the black roof
- rear hinged doors
- called the "Ladybug" in Japan
Give us your best interpretation and you'll win a Tomica Limited Vintage car (retail about $12), some JNC Stickers, and possibly have the photo published in the next issue of JNC Magazine.
