Re: New Zu Acquisition
Another one saved by Impulsive buying!
Nice one Bart.
What are the plans with this one?
Re: New Zu Acquisition
I've been thinking about it for the last week or so, tossing around ideas, and I hate to admit it, but I actually love the red on the SWB Troopers. So, I think I am going to keep it red. I've gotten a couple quotes on a repaint and I think that is what I will do as far as the color goes. It will also be the most economical. A full repaint would require pulling glass, etc. I also plan to keep the OEM snowflake wheels. They look nice with the red. That will keep the RS looking stock, as far as its color scheme and wheels go, but I also plan to install a 2" Calmini lift, then install some taller tires. I will also likely install an ARB winch bumper and clean up the stock rear bumper with some new parts. Down the road I will add a low profile roof rack and some lights. I also have a hood scoop which I might add just for looks and extra ventillation up front.
As for the interior, I've already removed the disgusting carpet. It was stained and worn through in several places. So I think I am going to LINE-X the interior floor, leave the cargo area with LINE-X and replace the carpet up front for a nice clean look. The seats will get recovered in black vinyl and I have a replacement dash pad which will also go in. The headliner is the biggest problem. It is perfect except for a single tear behind the sun visor on the drivers side. I am trying to sort out in my head some sort of metal plate I can put over the tear that will double as a CB bracket, thus hiding the tear and making it look clean up there. That part will take some creativity but I think I can do it so I can keep the original headliner.
Mechanically, the motor is running good but I think it is leaking from the front and rear main seals. So at some point that will need to be addressed. I don't know if I will pull the whole drive train and rebuild/refresh but if I can get ahold of a performance low torque cam I will. The truck badly needs new shocks, balljoints and tie-rod ends, which will get installed when I do the Calmini lift. That will straighten out the suspension bigtime. An ARB air locker for the 12-bolt rear is also on the shopping list.
In other words, I will have another $10,000 Trooper that has a $1500 Blue Book value. LOL.
