    Just scanned some old pics....

A while back I stumbled upon a book in a secondhand bookshop. It was a "history of cars in Australia" type of book. Had a flip through and it has some great photos of heaps of different cars. There a few Jap spec photos so I thought I'd scan them and post them up.

This is the main reason I bought the book - a photo of a bunch of Jap imports fresh off the cargo plane. In the middle is a Colt 1000 Sedan - funny thing is according the book caption they say it's a Mazda! The folds of the book are hiding an Izuzu Bellet. Other cars in the pic are a Honda, Mazda, Datsun, Toyota, and a Prince.

A photo of the 100,000th Sigma to be made at the Tonsley plant in SA ( drive past it ever day on the way to work). Sadly, this plant shut down 2 weeks ago for good.

I really like this pic. As a promotional thing, a dealer raised a Datsun 1200 Sedan up by crane and let it hang there on display :

Cool stuff, very interesting history on austrailian built cars. Were all the Galant/Sigma/Sapporos built there? I know from my few years as a Mitsu parts counterpeson that all Diamantes were Austrailian built and were a mojor pain in the butt to get parts for, especially the wagons!!

All? As in for the whole world?? No. Just the ones that we saw. Perhaps Mitsi exported some overseas.

On the other hand, yes, all (some? just the wagons?) the Diamante's that you would have seen in the 'States were build in Adelaide, Australia. Weren't Daiamantes (how do you stop spelling Diamaanantes? ) kind of expensive? Here the Magnas and Veradas (awful names) were cheaper than the same spec Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. Arguably better built, but cheaper.

Not too sure whether all the Sigmas etc were built in Oz. The frustrating thing about Mitsubishi is that that they don't share information very well. They pretty much deny knowledge that my cars exist as the Mitsubishi Corporation is not the same company as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries that built Colts in the 60's. South Australia has a wealth of pre 90's Mitsubishis and Jap cars in general so now that I've found this forum, I'll keep an eye out and my camera close by .
