A question about SA22C/FB rear storage compartments...

Just wondering, what exactly do the two storage compartments behind the front seats in a SA22C/FB RX-7 attach to? Is there some sort of false floor that sits on top of where the rear seat normally goes, or are they just held to a hollow frame?

they are bolted to some kind of composite shell which is then bolted to a bulkhead

    Cool, cheers for that.

Just weighing up my options as to whether I chase one down via a junkyard (which involves overseas shipping), or try and get something made locally out of bent alloy sheet or similar.

They're screwed to two pieces of sheet metal that are untreated. When I saw the rust I got a little a worried, but the floor underneath was in great shape.

oh primo! cheers for the photo j_tso. That helps considerably

Anyway, nowe that I know what to look for, I'll proceed to investigate my various options further. Have managed to track down a seller on fleabay who may have all the parts I require, and being able to describe those particular pieces will help immensely.

rx7cblink: sorry mate, don't have any recent photos of the car - it's been sitting quietly in storage waiting for me to figure out my next move. But I'll be sure to update the thread asap!

As a further description, the bins sides and top are made of plastic, and the bottom is just carpet that hangs from that plastic form. If you can imagine, it wouldn't hold anything with a lot of weight, but is still plenty sturdy for most anything that you put back there, such as oil, tools, coolant....
