Ford Courier engine simiar to 808 engine?

This might be a silly idea but there is an apparently smooth running '74 Ford Courier for sale cheaply - the owner is talking about swapping a V8 into it. It has a 1.8L engine and four speed manual. My '73 808 has a 1.6L with the four speed. I believe these are the same engine family - NA? Could I get take the Courier 1.8L and bolt it into my 808 using the 808 gearbox? I'm assuming the truck gearbox might have a lower first gear or something. Would there be any gain to bolting the 1.6L head onto the 1.8L? Thanks - there doesn't seem to be much info on these engines out there. Seems everyone tosses them for a rotary.

I believe the 1.8 from a Courier is just a stroked 1.6. Should swap over no problem. I would think the 1.8 head may be better flow wise, but the 1.6 may have a smaller chamber that would net higher compression. I have never seen a 1.6 cylnder head, and it's been years since I've seen the 1.8, so I could not tell you with any certainty.

The 2nd gen Courier used a Ford 2.3 engine in addition to the Mazda 2.0 engine. 1st Gen was 1.8 Mazda only.

I was always told if I was going to do any of the old series Mazda motors up, go the NA.
    Shorter stoke means more revs.

    From my engine manuals:
    1600 - NA Bore - 78mm(3.07 in) Stroke - 83mm(3.27 in)
    1800 - VC Bore - 80mm(3.15 in) Stroke - 88mm(3.46 in)
    2000 - MA Bore - 80mm(3.15 in) Stroke - 98mm(3.86 in)

I've seen a few 808s with MA motors in them but with the extra height in the block
the standard airfilter no longer fits when the bonnet is closed. They have then fitted the
"snorkel" type airfilter assemblies from the early model HB 929 with MA motors, that
remote mounted the airfilter towards the inner guard.

Thanks all for the feedback. The engine and displacement sure made some things clear in my head now. Not sure what I am going to do but I do feel a bit more clear now in my understanding. Thanks again.
